Story Movie

The Longest Yard 4K 1974 Ultra HD 2160p
The protagonist, former professional soccer player Paul Crewe, finds himself behind bars. The ambitious and brutal warden dreams of "pushing" a semi-professional soccer team of his guards into the national championship.

He offers Paul a deal - to arrange an unusual soccer match between a team of convicts and a team of guards with one important condition: the prisoners must lose... in exchange for the early release of Krue. So the game without rules began.

Review 4K Movie

Paul Crewe, a former soccer star, is going through a very bad patch in his life. The kid is in prison, but they won't let him serve his 18 months. Management of the colony knows about the glorious sporting past of Paul, and therefore strongly encourages him to lead a team of convicts to play "match of life" against the team of prisoners. And the game should be very good. But the result is predictable - the convicts must surely lose to the guards.

Foolish movie, made in the spirit of "Cold-Blooded Luke", only with elements of banter and without the pathos of the "anthem of freedom. Truth be told, old Robert Aldrich, who had also done some damage in the sixties (he came up with the "gerontological" horror fashion and also directed the crazy "Dirty Dozen") didn't really bother with the plot devices, he made more grotesque movies. The same Burt Reynolds' character in the introduction, while still at liberty, does some crazy set of nonsense, as a result of which he ends up in the penitentiary. But as the narrative goes on, it turns out that the kid is in jail not for stealing a car/attacking cops, but for rigging some soccer scores. And on the whole, Reynolds' character is far from consistent in his actions. One minute he's a reckless idiot, the next he's willing to stay out of trouble with the colony authorities, going along with all their initial conditions.

Another thing is that Aldrich did not particularly pretend to be philosophical and profound. The director first of all made a gleefully entertaining movie, where everything is built on a classic line - the beginning (the existence of the hero Reynolds in prison), the climax (the creation of a fighting soccer team) and the dynamic denouement (actually, the game itself). And it's all served in an appetizing sauce without lingering, albeit with the loss of some conceptual coherence. The execution is also good. Burt Reynolds secured his place as one of Hollywood's top brutal stars in the '70s after this particular film, and overall, he looks very cool in the film. Old Eddie Albert as the warden is also pretty damn good, and in general, the actor hit his high standard when he was well into his sixties. Colorful and the second plan, where particularly stands out Ed Lauter, not bad played the deputy of the colony. Aldrich has managed to put both entertaining and dynamic movie, in which the theme of protest served not even through understanding the need for freedom, but through the spontaneous desire to sometimes spit on everything and try to be human, not a creature quivering.

An interesting genre hodgepodge of prison, sports, and brutal humor. And although we will not meet Robert Aldrich again, the director managed to pleasantly surprise even this time.
