In 1991, in Vietnam, the killer picked up the girl, decided not to kill her, but to make her his protégé, and took her out of the country. 30 years later, Anna and Moody are excellent partners who “clear up blockages” all over the world for a big reward. "The Protege" is a crime thriller by Martin Campbell. This director is very talented and once presented the audience with "Golden Eye", "Casino Royale" and "Mask of Zorro". In recent years, his career has gone wrong and the most prominent work was "Foreigner" with Jackie Chan. This time, Maggie Q was approved for the main role, who, to put it mildly, is no match for Jackie Chan, so Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton and Robert Patrick came to support her.

The plot is very commonplace. In 1991, the hitman Moody (Sam Jackson) finds among the corpses a little girl, the culprit of this orgy. From that moment on, Moody took her up and for 30 years fulfilled orders with her. Naturally, during this time, the little girl grew into a cool killer Anna (Maggie Q). And on Moody's 70th birthday, they kill him. Anna decides to deal with those who killed her second father ...

The plot is disgusting. Not only is this a clichéd mess, which after the release of "John Wick" began to procrastinate on the screen without stopping in a new circle, but this whole gimmick is frankly shitty. The plot is full of inconsistencies (which are the last 20 minutes), interesting plot branches break off in mid-sentence to completely destroy potential interest while watching, and some plot "twists" are even ashamed to be called twists.

The heroes do not lag behind the total mass of the film. Maggie Q is just no one. Not only is she herself insanely thin, which makes the action scenes look ridiculous even with a good production, she also doesn't try to play Maggie Q at all. One could assume that the actress relies on her appearance, but, firstly, in an action film this is not at all the main thing, since Maggie Q herself is far from young (she is 42), and, frankly, her appearance is not pleasing to the eye. In addition, the authors in most of the scenes dress Maggie Q in potato sacks. Sam Jackson is also downright frustrating. His character has about 20 minutes of screen time, but Jackson, realizing the quality of the project, simply refuses to play. All Jackson's standard laughs and other manifestations of his charisma are pleasing, of course, but this is insanely small. He was especially upset by his attempts to show his character's illness by coughing. The find is extremely inappropriate (in the scenes where it is used) and fake. To whom there are no complaints, it is Michael Keaton. It can be seen how the man gets high on the role, which is why his character attracts much more than the others. Robert Patrick was brought in for another 10 minutes, but he is a typical wedding general here, you can't say otherwise.

The action component of the tape is at a very low level. Not only is the action very bland and made according to the training manual (except for a couple of moments), but it is also criminally small. There are only 5-6 action scenes, and they last all minutes for a maximum of 2, and often even shorter. It wouldn't be such a big problem if everything else in the film was at the level of a good movie, but, as is obvious from my review, everything else in the film is at the level of action scenes.

I don't even want to paint music, visuals and so on: another B-action movie with a budget in the limit of $ 30 million (I did not find information on the exact budget, so I made a conclusion judging by the result).
