Review 4K Movie

When the family of forest fugitives spent the better half of the movie learning to swim, which by the way is an hour and a half of screen time, I honestly tried to cool down. Not to cling to the most obvious manipulation of the viewer's emotions. But there's a limit to everything.

The Pandora's Whales plays an important cross-cutting role in the story. But how is this trap set? Only the most inattentive or unassuming viewers risk falling into this poorly disguised Cameron trap. In the first film, the cartoon capitalist, who does not put the nature of Pandora above and more valuable than a bag of bucks, declares straight from the screen: 'That's what we're here for. A pound of metal worth 20 million. They were thrown out. Sully knew they were coming back. And it's very strange that the ex-Marine didn't prepare for it in any way, but only procreated. But the dilemma is different. Now the celestial inhabitants, that is, the humans, have no use for the metal. Now they see Pandora as their new home. Not so simple, when the whales are included in the movie as plot engines, it turns out that there is something more valuable in their palate. A small container of liquid that has been extracted is already worth $100 million. And this liquid stops the aging process in humans. It's only been a year since the second coming of humans. During that year, they had to: hunt the whale for some reason, get to this exclusive material. Also to find out how it affects people. In one year! Recognizing at the same time, and without doubting it for a second, that these whales are intelligent. They have intelligence, culture, art, language and feelings.

Cameron spent a decade thinking about the world of Pandora. Its flora and fauna. A wonderful new world. But in fact we see only slightly modified variations of Earth's animals. Dogs, rhinos in the first film have been replaced by whales and sharks in the second. Na'vi, especially the new characters of Sally's children, unfortunately also differ from humans only in appearance. Maybe this is the cost of Jake's upbringing, who himself is originally from Earth. But there is a dissonance here. Sally accepts the customs and culture of the Na'vi, adopts combat coloring when necessary, and honors the blue ancestors. And his kid says to the whale, not even in his native tongue, but in English: 'Bro, thanks for saving me.

What struck me was the shambolic nature of the lead soldier. He wasn't an example of a deep character in the first movie either, but at least he was consistent in his blind, indomitable rage and determination to go all the way. In the second movie, he threatens Jake and Neytiri's children seven or eight times. All together, individually, alone, a couple again, and so on. But he doesn't carry out his threats, even when Sally and company outbid almost all of his people.

What do we end up with after a decade of this longhand. A script concocted on the knee. An unmemorable musical accompaniment whose only bright spot is the use of motifs from the first part. All of the composer's new ideas from the late 90's, early 00's were in anabiosis, like celestials flying to Pandora. It's not even a movie anymore. It's post-movie. An attraction that doesn't entertain, and doesn't even make you dizzy. It evokes absolutely no emotion other than bewilderment. But suffice it to remember what it's all about. Post-movie, not for the art, and not even for the money anymore, like superhero franchises. It's for the technology. Cameron wants to improve 3D - get the first Avatar with beautiful views. Cameron wants to improve underwater filming - get the second one. The script, the soundtrack, the logic, it all falls flat in the name of a scene that can be shot underwater. The reason is actually more noble than lining the pockets of the studio, but that doesn't make it any easier to watch for three hours straight.
