This film is quite unique for me personally, because usually when I watch a film and I don't like it, 90% of my complaints are directed at a bad script or acting. "Icy Drive" came out absolutely terrible and indistinct, but this is the case when there is nothing or almost nothing to show the writers. In some places, of course, there are small inconsistencies, but as soon as you want to say "this cannot be, a brand new tractor cannot boil after driving less than a day," as they immediately explain to you why this happened. Yes, the plot is a little old-fashioned, there is only one female heroine, and she does not really shine, but to be honest, this is what I like even more.

But otherwise the film is a complete failure. Unfortunately, none of the scenes in it work as they should. I don’t even know how much it is necessary to lose the director’s instinct in order to fail so every plan, every dialogue of the characters. Seemingly harsh northern landscapes, powerful chrome trucks, man's struggle with natural conditions - what could be easier than filming it in such a way that the viewer would tremble in the knees. But the director manages to shoot every dialogue in such a way that the seriousness of what is happening is simply destroyed. Actors read their text as if from a piece of paper and phrases that could mean a lot with a different game and pauses, turn into meaningless babbling. One of the heroes goes under the ice with such indifference, as if he does it 5 times every day, on his face it is written “yes, I am a positive hero who was needed to die at the first opportunity, and I was not paid to play something more ”, and the rest shrug their shoulders and roll on, as if he just had a headache and went to bed, and did not just lose a colleague and comrade. Naturally, it is very difficult for the viewer in such conditions to empathize with one of them.

Also, the director absolutely failed to catch up with the suspense of the struggle with natural conditions, although it would seem that the heroes literally walk on thin ice, and you can shoot it in such a way that every awkward movement of the heroes becomes scary, as it was in the "sorcerer" who inspired the filmmakers , where the viewer "felt" literally every pebble under the wheels of trucks carrying nitroglycerin. In the "ice drive", ice is used as an ubiquitous piano in the bushes, similar to how zombies are often used in zombie apocalypses, that is, whether it breaks or not at the moment depends solely on the whim of the scenario, and there may not be logic in this, therefore, it is clear to everyone that ice will not break under the main character, even if he blows up a stick of dynamite, and someone of secondary importance does not have time to sneeze as it goes to the bottom. Due to the resulting lack of natural obstacles to drama, the director had to fill the film with a large number of villains, preventing the heroes from reaching their destination. Indistinct and hectic action scenes with pensioner Neeson, his idiotic brother, the unkillable main villain and a bunch of minion nouns led to a satiation of the plot with events closer to the end, each of which lost all meaning, and for each there was a critical lack of screen time, in As a result, the viewer has to figure out how some of the scenes happened, because the director simply did not have enough time to show them in full. An example of this is the epically fucked up scene with the bridge, an almost direct quote from the same "sorcerer". But if in the sorcerer she unfolded slowly and with an epic sweep, forcing him to literally hold his breath, then here it looked like a hectic run back and forth, and even all the time was interrupted by a show of a dull massacre between Neeson and the head chief, which evoked the feeling of a Benny Heal show rather than dramatic struggle with circumstances.
