After the death of Lama Dorje from Tibet, Buddhist monks begin a worldwide search for the soul of the deceased. They find a boy named Jess Conrad from Seattle, a street kid from Kathmandu and a girl from a noble Indian family. Together they travel to Bhutan, where the children will undergo a test to find out which of them is the true reincarnation.

The movie 'Little Buddha' was not a cultural discovery for me, because I live in Ulan-Ude, the treasury of Russian Buddhism, but it left me with bright, unusual and uncertain feelings. I have grown since the first viewing, and finally I can describe them accurately.

Bertolucci serves us the film like an Indian dish, colorful, bright and juicy. The movie is not overloaded with special effects, pathos scenes, stamps - what a blessing for people of our era! The narration is in the oriental style - slow, unhurried, a little dragged out, like chanting mantras in Datsan.
