SexWorld (1978) was an unexpectedly ambitious project that uses the shell of a sci-fi porn movie to tell stories about human fears and desires. Instead of a simple series of scenes, there is a clear concept: an isolated high-tech resort where guests with personal problems arrive, and carefully designed sexual scenarios become a kind of therapy for them.

The movie builds several parallel lines: a married couple trying to recapture their passion; a protagonist confronting his racist prejudices; lonely people who fear re intimacy but crave acceptance. Each character is given enough time for the viewer to grasp their character and inner conflict, so eroticism is not seen as an end in itself, but as a tool through which the characters live out shame, fear, guilt, and insecurity.

For its time, SexWorld looks surprisingly thoughtful: the resort setting, the technicians watching everything, and the “adult attraction” feel create an atmosphere of a light dystopia in the vein of Westworld's aftertaste, only with an explicit sexual bias. That said, the movie doesn't drift into gloom or cynicism - on the contrary, it's sometimes unexpectedly soft on the characters and allows for the idea that even artificially constructed fantasies can prompt real inner change.

In terms of staging, for a genre movie of the late 70s, there is decent camerawork, clear editing and a noticeable desire of the authors to go beyond the standard set of “adult” scenes. That is why SexWorld is often mentioned among the most curious and “watchable” films of the golden era of XX-rated cinema: it simultaneously remains explicit, but at the same time gives the viewer a plot, characters and atmosphere that is not ashamed to talk about outside the context of pure exploitation.
