Yakuza gang boss Anjo disappears with three million yen. His gang members, led by the brutal Kakihara, begin searching for him. But their aggressive and bloody methods worry the other yakuza gangs. It's a weird movie. Very strange. Not weird for Miike, not weird for the Japanese, but weird.

Been meaning to watch Ichi for a long time. Heard a lot about it, expected a lot of things, as follows from various descriptions of the movie in the form of 'thrash-dismemberment'. That's probably why I have a strange attitude towards it. I didn't see any perverted dismemberments or great thrash. Yes, there are scenes in the movie, which are not easy to watch (the scene with cutting off the tongue is worth it), but they are few, and almost all of Ichi's 'good' deeds were left behind the scenes.

For the most part, the movie is not about Ichi at all, but about the Yakuza and the adventures of Kakihara, the only colorful character in the movie. The image a la Joker is quite good.

Ichi himself was shown for a total of 40 minutes of the movie, and he cried half the time. It felt like Omori was clearly overplaying his role, showing a battered and unhappy Ichi. But I think Miike emphasized this for a reason. The theme of weakness is clearly visible in the movie. And this is evident in many characters, including Kakihara.

Overall, the movie is good, it's hard to expect anything bad from Miike. But if you want to watch a hard thrash with dismemberment and comfort your fantasies, don't. Unless you want to tickle your nerves a couple of times.
