Review 4K Movie

I have never taken seriously the low ratings given to American films whose themes are in some way connected with Russia or Russian characters, because for the most part this is simply blind hatred or a foolish sense of wounded patriotism, which, as a rule, prevents viewers from looking objectively at other aspects of the film, forcing them to give poor ratings to projects that are actually quite good (take, for example, the excellent Charlie Wilson's War with Tom Hanks, which contained much more satire about the US, but Russians didn't care because they were more concerned with the portrayal of the USSR). However, this film is an example of when a low rating is very fair, I would even say a little overrated.

The debut feature film by female director Mimi Leder is a striking example of total tastelessness and dullness in both the script and the visuals. In films of this kind, as many say, the plot is not particularly important, and I can agree with them in principle. But only when the plot's helplessness is compensated for by some spectacular visual aspects or well-developed, memorable characters on whom one can focus one's attention. Unfortunately, there is nothing of the sort here.

Seriously, after watching the film, it leaves no emotions whatsoever, except disappointment. When watching a film, I usually try to find at least some positive aspects of the project, even if it is mediocre, but in this case, there is practically nothing to latch onto. The plot is dull and completely uninteresting. The first hour seems to stand still, and only in the second half of the film does it begin to move forward in any way. The dialogues are as toothless as the action scenes. With a very solid budget (especially for the 90s) of $50,000,000, there is NOT A SINGLE action scene that is even remotely impressive. Everything is tasteless, dull, and staged without any enthusiasm.

Even the well-established actors involved in the film do not help it. And while George Clooney looks quite natural and even somewhat brutal in the role of a special agent (his experience in From Dusk Till Dawn certainly shows), Nicole Kidman, despite her extremely attractive appearance, is completely lost against his backdrop, which is why the idea of a memorable duo is doomed to failure. Alexander Baluev makes a decent villain, whose mere gaze is enough to instill fear. But alas, due to the weak script, his actions do not allow this potentially good villain to unfold to his full potential.

The result is an extremely unpleasant picture. Peacemaker, a potential blockbuster of 1997, despite its substantial budget and famous actors, managed to ruin its entire potential with extremely repulsive visuals, which, combined with dull characters and a dreary plot, turns it into little more than a third-rate action movie starring Steven Seagal, where there was also nothing even remotely impressive. Hence the low rating, but in my opinion.
