Trucker Lincoln Hawk is on his way to Las Vegas for the World Armwrestling Championship. He has a lot of worries: he has to meet and talk to his ex-wife, who is dying of a strange heart disease; after breaking the gate and dealing with the bodyguards, to check up on his beloved father-in-law and at any cost to bring back his son, who was abandoned 10 years ago.

Perhaps some people will find the plot of Over the Top too naive and unrealistic, especially after more than 20 years, but the essence of almost all of Sylvester Stallone's roles is always relevant: with desire and perseverance, a person can achieve anything they want. And this is not a sports action movie, but a very high-quality drama, even if it has a simple story that ends with the inevitable happy ending. Nowadays, cruel endings and hopeless situations are popular, but who said that this is true for everyone? There are always people who believe only in the best, and for them, Over the Top is a “native” film.

The main character, truck driver Lincoln Hawk, tries with all his might not only to win the upcoming arm wrestling championship, but also to win the affection of his son, who was taken in by his grandfather after Lincoln's divorce from his wife. Because for him, this is much more important than the money he wins and the prize of a huge new truck. The story is not original, but it is played out very well - Stallone, in his characteristic manner of a kind and modest Man with a capital M, defeats one opponent after another, flexes his triceps right in the driver's cab, and at the same time proves to his son that his grandfather will not teach him anything good, and most importantly, that no one loves him more than Lincoln himself.

Particularly cynical viewers are unlikely to like any of this. But fans of such stories will definitely enjoy Over the Top. The drama is kind and, most importantly, positive, meaning that the main characters achieve their goals. I have always believed that this is what should be shown first and foremost in any genre, and if this is the case in dramas, then cinema has a bright future ahead of it. Not everyone will agree with me, but there are very few films like this, and even fewer action heroes. This is certainly not Stallone's best work, but his characters are always a pleasure to watch, and Lincoln Hawk, who smashes down the gates of the estate with his truck and wins the arm wrestling championship, is no exception.

In my opinion, this is a kind and, as always, “hopeful” drama starring Sylvester Stallone, which I recommend to all his fans.
