Story Movie

Review 4K Movie

I have seen many films from the eighties, but I don't think I have ever seen a film in which such a ridiculous amount of naivety was presented. The most stereotypical ninjas, who were only missing a sign saying “I am a ninja” in their hands to confirm that “yes, we are ninjas, here they are,” guards lured by pictures of naked women, Ninja Smoke Bombs™, which the notorious shadow warriors manage to scatter completely unnoticed in open spaces, right under the feet of their opponents, the most typical operetta villain (played, it must be said, by the talented actor Christopher George) who carries out typical evil deeds to seize land (which the landowners naturally defend with their lives, as they must), the villain's comically foolish assistant—it's amazing how many clichés a single film can contain, even though it was made by Cannon Studios, whose productions I really like, but which are often second-rate and “B-movie” in nature.

And yet - yes, yes - this type of naivety is precisely the kind that carries a charge of indulgent warmth, rather than causing irritation or a contemptuous smirk. ‘Enter the Ninja’ is like the fantasies of a child who has just read a volume of ' I Discover the World about ninjas and immediately rushed out into the street to make a sword out of a stick and a piece of scrap metal, a mask out of his mother's old nightgown, and, secretly from his parents (they would take them away!), made himself some shuriken or bought some plastic toy ones. Of course, it's a little disturbing that this childish fantasy was produced and directed by grown adults, but then again, it's Cannon Films, so we're not complaining. In addition, the wave raised by this film, which spawned a whole platoon of ninja fighters, did all of the above with flocks of kids, turning them into Hong Gil-dongs or Sho Kosugis - who, by the way, is also present in this film, as how could it be without him.

He laughs maliciously and glares at Franco Nero because he is not worthy of being a ninja, etc., well, you get the idea. There is nothing supernatural about his performance (as with Nero and the rest), but nevertheless, everything is according to the rules - a good ninja in a final deadly battle against evil, black against white - with all that follows. Sometimes the film veers into sentimentality, which doesn't suit it very well, and in general, any universal human relationships here are overshadowed by somewhat crude and clumsy, but quite watchable action.

The naivety of Enter the Ninja sometimes moves me to tears, but personally, I find this film very watchable, and I will gladly watch a handful more ninja-themed films, which I wasn't particularly fond of before.
