Story Movie

An action-adventure film based on the exploits of the popular comic book character The Phantom. An ancient legend tells of the magical Tuganda Turtles, which grant destructive power to whoever possesses them. The keeper of the secret, the noble “hero in a mask” Kid Walker, faces off against the villain Drax, who is obsessed with the idea of unlimited power over humanity. The Phantom must defeat gangsters and pirates, win the love of the beautiful Diane, and save the world.

Review 4K Movie

Plot. The plot is typical of American comics from the ’90s. An unusual hero, an unusual setting for him to showcase his abilities (the jungle isn’t exactly smog-choked New York or Los Angeles). The film also features a bit of romance and adventure. Sure, it might be a bit simplistic, but hey, it’s from the last century!

Special Effects. Personally, I’m happy even with such simple special effects. No, I mean, what did you expect in the jungle, especially in 1996? Killer robots, the Terminator, or surrogates? Or maybe a nuclear explosion? I think there’s plenty of everything here. There’s plenty of jumping out of planes, gunfire, and spirits flying out of skulls.

Actors. Well, of course, you could argue about this. Yes, maybe someone got a little carried away by casting Billy Zane in the lead role (even though he’s my favorite actor). He spent practically the entire movie smiling sweetly with his dazzling Hollywood smile. But they shortchanged him on the lines. Too bad… he can actually speak. They picked the girls very well! They really tried. And just as a “comic book” movie should have: a blonde and a brunette, black and white, good and evil. But the villain played his part well. He even overplayed it. Williams showed exactly the passion and drive that grips absolutely all crazy villains.

And as expected, every hero needs sidekicks. A horse and a wolf. And a neighboring tribe acting as the “people.” What else do you need? It’s the ’90s, baby! There was no Robin or some other simpleton running after the superhero or showing up at the most crucial moment.

Everything is simple, understated, logical. Just the way I like it.
