Story Movie

Arabia, 7th century. After refusing to become the concubine of a powerful ruler, Princess Hind is forced to flee into the desert with her father. There they meet the enigmatic bandit Hanzala, a master of many martial arts. Together, they manage to unite the Arabian tribes and lead them into battle against the Persians.

For as bad as the reviews here are, I find no fault in the film. I'm surprised, actually.. with anthony mackie being the face of a new desert film, I was expecting something else entirely. But instead, it is a classy film that doesn't aspire to be anything more, it seems. And whoever was in charge knew to subdue mackie's involvement, while still feeling completely out of place.

The movie is very atmospheric.. but a bit long-winded, and it is somewhat slow to get going. It was also somewhat confusing at times, and getting familiarized with different cultures is always disorienting.

In the end, I felt it accomplished what it sought out to do in a believable manner.. just not in a cinema kind of way. I was reminded of those holy week tv movies that were broadcasted in my youth. It was okay, and at no point did I feel insulted by it.
