The film is set in a not-too-distant utopian future where the highest advances in nanotechnology have allowed technological genius Ken Castle to fuse a video game with a reality show and simulate the ultra-functional, multiplayer game "The Assassins," which has become the habitat of local criminals.

John Tillman, sentenced to life in prison for a crime he did not commit, must take part in the Game to gain his freedom. To one wealthy young player, John Tillman is Cable, just a sim, a controllable character in the Game. Because of his fighting ability and physical strength, Cable becomes a national hero and ranks at the top of the game.

Every week, millions of people around the world follow him and the hundreds of other suicide bombers who participate in the game's battles online. According to the rebel group that opposes Castle, his game is high-tech slavery, and he is the critical element that must be destroyed. Cable/Tillman is caught between two powerful opposing forces who have no interest in seeing him survive. With each step watched by millions, John Tillman fights to gain his freedom, reclaim his identity, and overthrow the system that imprisoned him.

So Neveldine and Taylor, the creators of Adrenaline, made a futuristic action film starring Gerard Butler as the planet's chief Spartan.

As usual we go in order:

1 Video background - these 2 directors prefer the original hits of the camera and unusual angles. Here they went all out and did not look like the standard video sequence and original approach + unconventional staging.

2 Sound - Brilliant, explosions shooting everything is great. The soundtrack is great, includes Marlin Manson's composition Sweet Dreams and heavy music. And plus the sound matches the video perfectly.

3 Actors - In addition to Gerard Butler, we see many familiar faces like Ludacris, Amber Valletta, Keith David. Liked Michael S. Hall, Kyra Sedgwicki and Logan Lerman. All of the actors play great.

4 Plot - Many people compare it to the movie The Running Man, as I think this comparison is wrong as it shows a TV show where players play characters just like in all online games except that the characters are real people.

5 Action - there's plenty of it, and it's done to the full 10 points. Explosions, gunfire, cars, helicopters, motorcycles, flamethrowers, severed limbs and blood.

A real network shooter! And at the end we are waiting for a great death dance.

6 The dialogues are at a good level, although they do not grab the stars from the sky.

7 The rest - I liked the references to famous games and the Internet and computer in general. Me spotted: the ubiquitous G-Man from Half-life, a man resembling a machine gunner from Team Fortress 2, etc.

Well, mostly surprised by the many findings and original solutions from the world of the future shown in the movie.

This is the only film where the actor's teeth were really like a prisoner's, instead of sparkling white.

Conclusion : A serious good action movie, not without meaning.

All fans of games, fans of adrenaline, fans of action movies, fans of Gerard Butler and just fans of good movies should like it.
