When Richard Burton, Richard Harris, and Roger Moore appear on screen together, that’s an event in itself. But *The Wild Geese* is more than just a star-studded affair: the script is solid, the characters are vivid, and the action is gritty and unvarnished. The first hour is a leisurely recruitment and training sequence, but there’s no time to get bored. Then it all unfolds into a gritty war action film with real weight to its casualties the death of every character feels significant because you’ve had time to grow attached to them. The ending doesn’t offer an easy catharsis and that’s honest. A classic of its genre, made back when they knew how to make movies like this.
