Story Movie

"Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time" is the conclusion of the Neon Genesis Evangelion animated saga in 4K. A post-apocalyptic future, complex questions about human nature, battles, and visual effects. Emotion, philosophy, and science fiction in a movie that wraps up the story with symbolism and metaphysics. A fascinating immersion into the world of anime.

Review 4K Movie

You know, it's very rare to have that feeling in your heart when you follow any franchise, that feeling of a long journey and the end coming. I think it's a bit like life in general and the end of it, retiring. Same thing with Evangelion. There have only been a few franchises in my life that I feel like I've lived an era with. Evangelion is one of them.

Watching Evangelion makes you feel old. That feeling doesn't leave you until the end of the viewing.

As the story progresses, you meet familiar characters. They have grown up, gained a family, even children. In the backgrounds, there are familiar and stunning views of devastation that evoke nostalgia.

Watching these scenes, you catch yourself thinking that the 4th Evangelion rebuild has been deliberately withheld for so many years. It's like a wine aged for years, it gives a completely different impression, a completely different emotion. The gap between the release of the first rebuild and the last is 14 years, the same number of years since the third hit. What a coincidence.

Expectedly, I got a lot of questions answered during the viewing, and even more questions. But thankfully those questions deal more with far-fetched religious symbolism, how this world works, and what exactly is going on. At the very end, so much information is dumped on you that you can't keep track of it all. But the main thread and philosophy of the story is clearly traced, which answers many questions. And these answers are what we were all waiting for, the main idea of the whole work.

As for fanservice, there is a lot of it. There are a lot of moments that bring tears to a real fan of Evangelion. There are many parallels to the manga and the original Evangelion, right down to the homage to the old hand-drawn animation methods. However, I'm afraid that some adherents of the goddess worship of this tittle will have a nasty burn in one place. I'll bear with it, and I advise you to bear with it.

The end of Evangelion is like it takes you from the present to the past, and then brings you into the new. It's like your whole life has flashed before your eyes and you've been reborn.

I shudder to imagine what those who watched Evangelion as adults back in the 90s are feeling right now. They've lived with it all their lives, many even under-lived it to this point.

I feel both sad and happy at the same time. I'm glad it ended this way.

Evangelion ended, but what was inside it was reborn. It's Death and Rebirth.

And you, the reader too, need to be reborn, let go, say goodbye, and then go straight and find something new for yourself.

This is the end of an era. It's a rebirth of yourself. Goodbye, I will remember you always.
