Gotham, the heritage of those who died long ago, the founders of the city and their names are forgotten. The story begins. A story that tells not so much about Batman, but about Lieutenant James Gordon, an important branch of the story about Gordon's acquaintance with Batman, a story about a meeting of two people who will become allies and good friends. Of course, the original story on the pages of the comics is shown more extensively and deeper, but the animated version tries to please the eye of the viewer unfamiliar with the original source and to some extent it succeeds, so, what is there in Gotham?

Bruce Wayne looks out of the plane window at the city, Gotham City in its glory, but it is a deceptive beauty, a city full of filth, violence, a city that in the future will give rise to psychos dressed up as clowns and not only, a city of suffering. A bad way to get to Gotham by train, but James Gordon is not one of those who are looking for easy ways, you can see disappointment in his eyes, this is not where he wanted to “Protect and Serve”, but there is no choice and a person important for Gotham in the future should have ended up in Gotham. Fate? Perhaps so, perhaps not, it is impossible to know for sure.

- Maybe Gotham is what I deserve and maybe I'm here for my sins. My first year here and I hope I can live here, or rather survive. My first year.

January 4th, the day when Gordon entered the doorstep of the city, the ill-fated city, at least to foist a newspaper with gossip on him, but he is not interested, he looks around, Gordon gets to know Gotham in order to understand him and survive in it. Any mistake can cost his life, and Lieutenant D. Gordon needs to worry not only for himself, but also for his family, wife and unborn child.

If we recall the original comic strip "Batman: Year onе" and if we say that in the comics it is shown more and more deeply, then this also applies to the history of Bruce Wayne's formation in Batman, in the animated film this part was a little crumpled, but it is clear that they tried to convey atmosphere. Each director sees in his own way, and Sam Lew is no exception, what is missing from the story is well compensated by the dynamics and good animation, which is good. It would be bad if they tried to destroy the entire story arc, but it is clearly clear that the creators did not want this in their efforts.

Gotham City

Gradually, James Gordon realizes that it is difficult to be an honest cop on the streets of this city steeped in corruption, but the lieutenant will not go against his principles. It will definitely not be easy for James, since he was not assigned the best partner, but Gordon will do everything in his power to “serve and protect”.
