Story Movie

A story about an experienced swindler who falls in love with a girl who is making her first steps in the field of illegally taking money from citizens. The relationship becomes a problem for them when it is discovered that romance interferes with their dishonest business.

Review 4K Movie

The duo of the inimitable and charming Will Smith and the sultry Australian blonde Margot Robbie, who has already starred with such masters of Hollywood as DiCaprio and Pitt. Did you know that Robbie comes from a small town called Dalby in Queensland, known only for mining?

Naive young and precocious pickpocket Jess thinks romance can be had in a thief's workplace. And the experienced maestro of the criminal genre Nikki follows the precepts of his father that love will not do good and make you vulnerable at the most inopportune moment. And so he sails a spectacular blonde and then they part like ships at sea, until fate brings them together again on one fat fraudulent project, as a result of which the romantic relationship flares up with renewed vigor, being spurred by situational adrenaline.

The narrative is quite fast-paced, no slack, and the timing is as if measured with a stopwatch, like on a race track - sometimes so fast that you can barely catch the essence of the multiple schemes - what's the catch here, who is screwing up and using whom and in what way. And only then you realize that everything is done according to the law of the genre - after all, the thief always steals from his victim lightning fast, without giving it a second thought. And Nikki's team is quite charming and not devoid of its thieving nobility. They clean not poor people, but vain types, gamblers, inattentive gawkers, exposing expensive things, family fans of strawberries and other not quite honest people. In general, if we recall the well-known Soviet movie: “Detochkin, of course, is guilty, but he is not to blame”. The skill of crooks is brought to the limit, but nothing compares to the “scam of the century”, when at stake is a very large prize. Will money win over evil this time, or will love be stronger?

In some places “Focus” suspiciously resembles the creations of Guy Ricci, although it is not. Apparently, by its lateral plot lines, the most of which I liked the story about Chinese Liyuan played by B.D. Wong, familiar to me from “Jurassic Park”. I also liked the joke about Australians as a hint to the anecdotal rudeness and roughness of the inhabitants of the “green continent” - say, you, baby, be careful here in the bar, or all sorts of Australians go back and forth, not for nothing the British exiled them to the end of the world in Australia. Such a joke addressed to the heroine, whose role is played by an Australian actress, was a joke “in square”.

I do not agree with many overly picky viewers who did not see in “Focus” what they wanted to see. Personally, I saw everything I wanted to see - namely Will Smith, that's how much I like him. In his “late forties”, the maturing Smith looks terrific and much better than his younger self. There are some men who resemble strong drinks with a lot of staying power. Well, it never hurts to look at fellow countrymen (I live in Australia), to rejoice at their successes and marvel at how they made it to the top. After all, the story of the rapid conquest of Hollywood can boast not only Margot Robbie, but also well-known Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts (“Mulholland Drive”), Jason Clarke (“Everest”, “The Human Contract”), Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”), Hugh Jackman (“The Prestige”) and Paul Hogan (“Dundee Called Crocodile”).
