The elixir of eternal youth! How many women dream of it! Broadway star Madeline Ashton, and Helen Sharp, from whom the conniving Madeline had beaten off her fiancé Ernest Manville, a brilliant plastic surgery specialist.

Years have passed, and the ladies, who have grown tired of each other, turn to a certain sorceress for a miracle potion. So, the elixir is drunk, the skin is freshened, breasts tightened, but soon the quality of the drug will be tested.... by death.

I belong to that category of people who enjoy revisiting old comedies in preference to new ones. Not because modern 'masterpieces' are inferior in quality to movies of the past, but because of the special atmosphere that reigns in these now old movies.

Its plot is simple on the one hand, but on the other hand it includes so many unexpected twists and turns that it would be enough for a whole Brazilian soap. It's the story of two friends (read 'rivals') and one man they try to share for the rest of their lives. Add to that the fact that both are obsessed with beauty and wanting to look better than their friend. On top of that, they discover the elixir of eternal youth. What will come out of all this? It's a good comedy, timeless.

The success of this film is based on three elements - the first-class solicitation of Robert Zemeckis, the excellent play of the entire cast as a whole and each of them separately, and a subtle partly black humor.

Separately it is worth saying about each of the actors and the images they managed to create. Meryl Streep seems to be forever frozen in the age of a woman in her thirties, eternally young or at least striving to find eternal youth. This role suits her just fine. Keeping up with her Goldie Hawn is sweet, naive and at the same time vindictive and cruel. Isabella Rossellini - as always looks gorgeous, with a demonic look, with the offer of eternal youth in exchange for eternal life without the right to rest.

But the funniest thing is the role of Bruce Willis, at first glance completely unsuitable for him. Undoubtedly he is well established as a comedic actor, despite all his exploits in action films and action movies. Yet this role stands apart. Gray, cowardly, subservient alcoholic - he causes pity and a smile. Here he is not joking, he just looks funny. So the movie can be watched at least for the sake of seeing that Bruce really can be different.

Comedy situations are present in abundance, but sometimes the humor balances on the edge of absurdity, so not everyone may not like it. One scene with Goldie Hawn with a huge flat round hole in her abdomen and one of the characters saying to her: 'I can see right through you!
