Twenty years ago, journalist Andy Sachs worked as an assistant to Miranda Priestly, editor of the fashion magazine *Runway*. Now, as traditional newspapers and magazines are in decline due to new technologies, her entire department is being downsized, and she loses her job. When Andy receives an offer from the publisher to return to the magazine’s editorial office, she accepts. The still-tough Miranda must once again deal with her creative assistant, and together they try to save *Podium* and stand up to the onslaught of Emily Charlton—another former assistant who now holds an important position at one of the fashion houses and is trying to take advantage of the decline of the print media.

Everything about this movie is wonderful. The sequel left a positive impression. The actresses look almost exactly the same: Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway look great 20 years later. Meryl Streep has lost weight in this film compared to the first one, and it’s clear that she’s gotten older.

Fans of the first movie will definitely appreciate the second one as well. The film plays out more like a continuation, and it’s enjoyable to rewatch after seeing the first one. It shouldn’t be judged in isolation from the original. It turned out well: new times, new mores. Miranda Priestly looks great for her age and tries to keep up with the times, even though it doesn’t come easily to her. Nowadays, Miranda’s and her company’s reputation depends not only on the quality of their products but also on how they treat their employees. She’s surrounded by people who help her speak more appropriately. Miranda no longer throws coats at people; instead, she awkwardly hangs them up herself. She remains a strong character, but she’s lost some of her edge. It’s clear that she’s finding it harder to adapt to modern realities.

Andrea Sachs hasn’t changed much. In the first film, she was a naive, talented young woman just starting her career. Watching her now is disappointing. Psychologically, the character hasn’t gained confidence, hasn’t matured, hasn’t learned to love herself, and is still just as willing to do anything to earn Miranda’s approval. For a young girl, this behavior seemed more natural, but for a middle-aged woman, it looks strange, to say the least. The character was likely intentionally made mentally immature—as indicated by her lack of a personal life.

It was a pleasure to watch Emily’s transformation and career growth. Her gaze has become more confident and commanding—a professional facade for the uninitiated. Behind the screen of feigned coldness, she remains the same warm-hearted heroine at heart.

Compared to the first film, Nigel has simply aged, and he no longer has those same ambitions. He’s settled down and become a loyal servant to the system.

Overall, as a sequel to the original, the film works! Can it be viewed separately from the first film, or should we expect the same emotional impact from it? Definitely not. Because the first film was about the career beginnings of a young woman with her whole life ahead of her who accidentally found herself in a fashion magazine. It offered the chance to immerse yourself in that time and dream along with them: where could they possibly go from here? The second film, however, is more about fully realized characters. There’s no ambiguity here; you don’t dream alongside the characters—you simply follow them. And even though the plotlines are similar, it’s impossible to recapture that atmosphere of fantasy and dreams a second time. That’s exactly why the movie might evoke a slight sense of longing in those who expected the second installment to deliver the same experience as the first.
