A strange and melancholic film by Cesare Canevari, a decadent melodrama disguised as an erotic film. Characterized by an aura of constant sadness, or rather, emotional emptiness. The impression is that the director never decides what the film's "genre" should be: psychological eroticism, bourgeois drama, soft provocation... thus, it remains suspended in mid-air, trying to break free from traditional clichés. The erotic component today seems very restrained, suggestive, and never truly scandalous; in fact, the film focuses more on sentimental alienation than on true sensuality.

Director Cesare Canevari's major fault is his inability to develop the film narratively; in the long run, it gives the impression of being somewhat self-contained. The pace is deliberately slow, and some scenes seem to drag on only to create atmosphere, without any real narrative tension. Its greatest merit is its ability to recreate the visually captivating setting of a luxury photo novel: villas, 1960s interiors, and soft photography, all served with a certain decadent European flair and peppered with plenty of sex that tastes like existential boredom.

Erika Blanc works precisely because of that sense of emotional emptiness that comes from someone who seems to live life with detachment. Meanwhile, the other characters, including the excellent Adolfo Celi, are underdeveloped.
