Story Movie
Welcome to Gattaca - the perfect world of the future. Here everyone is genetically programmed, and a sad fate awaits those who were born in love, and not in the laboratory. Such is the fate of Vincent Freeman, a young man who was labeled as "not fit" at birth.
Vincent has significant flaws: he is subject to passions, he succumbs to emotions, and he believes that his dreams will come true. This is why he buys another person's identity in an attempt to trick the authorities into becoming a respected member of the Future Gattac Corporation.
And when he is already on his way to freedom, murder threatens to reveal his real identity. Despite his innocence, Vincent has a lot to hide and a lot to lose. But it's so hard to stay alive when two people live in you ...
Review 4K Movie
Surprisingly, on "Kinopoisk" the page of Andrew Nikkola, who directed "Gattaca", does not allow the user to see the entire filmography of the director. You can find out the age, nomination, place of birth, but the filmography - alas! But he wrote the script for "The Truman Show" and "Terminal", filmed not only "Gattac", but also "The Armory Baron", "Time", "Simona" and "Anon"!
If you haven't watched Gattaca yet, but have seen Time with Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfred, then you will also recognize Nikkol's directorial style when watching Gattaca. The same austere clothes, deliberately perfectly outlined shapes of buildings and cleaned to a luster of premises, as well as retro cars on the roads, although the action takes place either today or in the near future, in which technology has taken a step forward and humanity has learned to grow ideal people.
In its style, the world of "Gattaki" is similar to the world of "Equilibrium", as well as to the painting "Dark City" with their prohibitions and bizarre rules of life. So, one of the rules of "Gattaki" is the child's right to be respected in society or, on the contrary, depending on whether he was conceived by his parents in a traditional way or grown in a test tube. It is “artificial” children that are ideal in the world of the future, because scientists erase all their shortcomings already at the genetic level, and parents themselves have the right to “design” their baby and make sure that at the stage of adulthood, for example, he does not start to go bald. Only the so-called "Good" (people from test tubes) can work in high positions, while the "Bad" play only the role of service personnel.
Vincent (Ethan Hawke), who always dreamed of flying into space, but because of a defect of heart and myopia, is clearly deprived of the opportunity to go on a space journey, is one of the "Unsuitable". One day his dream becomes a reality (I won't describe how Vincent was going to this - the more interesting it will be for you to watch the film), only one problem arises - a murder occurs at the work of the protagonist and a "Bad" is suspected of committing it, because an eyelash is found at the crime scene ... Vincent!
It was not by chance that I mentioned the similarity between Gattaka and Equilibrium at the very beginning. Both films are similar not only in appearance, but also in their style - both there are shown a society in which people are not particularly eager to show feelings. In Equilibrium, they were banned, "but in Gattac, this is a kind of norm for the society of the future that was shown. People for the most part are cold and calculating, do not seek to share their emotions and experiences with others, because they (feelings) are a kind of indicator that a person may turn out to be "Worthless".
At the same time, the Gattaki society, devoid of any "heart" experiences, is not soulless, by no means! People in it dream of high dreams, work hard, and if they rest, they mostly do it according to the principle of high society (in restaurants, to classical music and talk about the eternal). Here, by the way, “Gattaca” and “Vremya” very clearly intersect - when watching, you draw parallels with the directorial style of Andrew Nikkola, who obviously has his own view of what society will be like in the future.
Who else, but I really like this vision of the future - it seems to send the viewer to the belief that having reached the peak of its development, humanity will gradually begin to refuse back and soon again remember about DVD-disks, and then VHS-cassettes and magnetic diskettes , after which a new era of vinyl will come. And this will mean that the future will return to the middle of the 20th century ...
