If our modern world still treats same-sex love with aversion and prejudice, what can we say about the seventeenth century, let alone a nunnery? Of course, such a thing was not only unacceptable, but sinful, shameful and harshly punishable by law. So to fall in love with a girl in those days, being a nun was a real curse. Such "misfortune" overtook the young girl Benedetta Carlini. Since childhood, she had sensed the divine within her and was ready to give herself completely to the service of the Lord. But one beautiful (read: terrible) day everything changed when a new girl joined them in the convent. She is not at all fanatical in terms of religion, unlike the other novices, she is more liberated, courageous and open in her feelings and emotions. Living under constant conditions of prohibition, Benedetta is tempted by the forbidden fruit and just goes crazy for this girl. And it is far from just platonic love, we are talking about real erotic pleasure. Except that nothing can go unnoticed in the monastery, and soon everyone learns about the connection between the two ministers. No matter how much the monastery loves Benedetta, but the law is the same for all, and anyone who violates it - will be burned at the stake. Will the girl cope with the temptation, surrender to the oppression of society, or prove to everyone that she acts according to God's guidance?

To be honest, I'm not a fan of historical movies, much less those about events in monasteries from the 15th-17th centuries. But "Temptation" is not at all like all the films of this genre that I have seen before. The thing is, it's probably the most atypical plot for a historical drama. On the one hand, the film is sort of about a fairly modern topic, but it's also based on real events. For me, this is top notch at all: combining contemporary relevance and past history in a film at the same time. I was most surprised by the fact that it was able to convey the atmosphere of the past, that is, preserve the historical authenticity. I often encounter the problem that in historical films the actors' acting is totally unreliable and, let's say, some elements of everyday life. But in this film, every detail corresponds to the time of action unfolding.

Nothing less awesome from Paul Verhoeven I didn't even expect. Even though this is a historical movie, but I knew the movie would be far from being about Musketeers or knights. What I love about the director is that there is no vulgarity or vulgarity in his films: it is tastefully filmed with crazy intrigue. By the way, the name "Basic Instinct" would also suit this film) I really liked the actors: they are all completely extraordinary faces, interesting and attractive. They acted incredibly professionally, as if they were really filming in the seventeenth century.

I think that Paul Verhoeven managed to dilute the monotonous modern cinema. He successfully managed to implement a combination of historical and erotic drama in the film "Temptation". There was not a single drawn-out boring moment here, all the details mattered, even just the expression of the main character's face was interesting to watch. A really high quality movie, which is not just interesting to watch, but even fascinating, even though it seems to be just a historical drama.
