The Untouchables 4K 1987 Ultra HD 2160p
The plot is based on the fight between the police and the king of the underworld, the famous gangster Al Capone, who, as you know, only managed to be put behind bars as a tax evader.

Review 4K Movie

A very interesting film - it's a breathtaking and beautifully made. But, alas, not at all.

The plot, devoted to the rehearsals of the hunt for the great and terrible Al Capone, smacks of 'Hollywood' pathetics. The touching friendship of the partners, family values, the confrontation between the mafia and the policemen. Not that it's all hackneyed, but it looks trite and unnatural. Maybe the movie should have been made longer? To make all the story lines look full-fledged. Although, what I will teach the legendary director.

And some moments at all look completely cartoonish - the same episode with the attack on the liquor trucks. I also can't take for granted the schematic nature of the relationships between the 'untouchables' - in a couple of days almost the first people you meet become comrades-in-arms and close friends. Don't be ridiculous. The other episodes in general bring to mind some Indiana Jones - the shooting and the accountant running around with the winchester. It's just stupid.

All in all, the biggest flaw in the film is the lack of depth... I was expecting to see more than just an adventure drama with action elements. No comparison with classics of gangster cinema - the same 'Godfather', 'Goodfellas' or De Palma's 'Scarface'. Or 'Once Upon a Time in America.

But the actors are very good. Especially De Niro's Capone. This is where the trademark crooked grin of De Niro worked for all time! A brilliant role, simply brilliant. I also remember Capone's main sidekick - the killer Frank Nitti. Amazing charisma and stunning type. I was not much impressed with Sean Connery, though he won an Oscar for it, but I liked Andy García as the young, rookie policeman.

I think the most noticeable merits are the direction and the camerawork. The cameraman is really something - practically every shot is polished to the finest detail! Every turn of the camera looks insanely beautiful and clear. Nothing unnecessary. The last time I saw such craftsmanship was in Polanski's 'The Lodger'. Morricone's music is equally impeccable here, and the entire film, from the opening credits to the closing credits, is visually stunning. Especially the textbook scene on the train station stairs, a tribute to Eisenstein, it seems. In some places, this visionary stuff is even annoying.

In general, the movie is good, even beautiful, but more entertaining than impressive and touching. It lacks psychology and depth for my taste. But it's worth watching.
