Story Movie

Two tourists witnessed the meteorite fall and, of course, paid dearly for their curiosity, attacked by a bloodthirsty alien. There was a house not far from this place, and the cosmic guest decided to spend the night in its basement. For breakfast, the grown monster with numerous offspring devoured the couple living in the house, and for lunch, it decided to feast on the other inhabitants of the building, since not one, but two families lived there! However, the “lunch,” consisting of several “dishes,” decided to fight the visitor, and it didn't come to dinner, although the alien guests still had the last word.

Review 4K Movie

Sometimes you realize that a lack of money for filming a movie is not an obstacle (well, depending on what kind of movie you're making, of course). Horror movies are a prime example of this. You don't have to spend a lot to create an excellent horror film; you need perseverance, faith, and ingenuity. Another confirmation of this is The Deadly Spawn, an excellent, sadly forgotten film made for a paltry $25,000, but looking much brighter and more interesting than one would expect.

Another meteorite that crashed into our long-suffering Earth brought cosmic evil once again. This time, it's toothy worms with a taste for flesh. Settling in the basement of one of the houses, this pack began to feast on humans, taking advantage of the fact that it was pouring rain outside and people were afraid to stick their noses out. All the better for the worms.

The title, plot, and beginning, suspiciously reminiscent of the opening scenes of Night Beast, lead the viewer to believe that what will unfold on screen will be formulaic trash, but in reality, it is much more interesting. Of course, I would not call the film serious, but it is clearly not a lighthearted horror comedy. Firstly, the potential victims here are quite sane and normal people, whereas in many films of this kind, the authors, aiming to create more trash and madness, rewarded the characters with low intelligence and a whole bunch of mental disorders.

Secondly, the script may be simple, but overall it is understandable and good - again, unlike the trashy films mentioned above, which the authors loved to burden with unnecessary scenes, stupid comedy elements, and other ballast. Here, the viewer is presented with a completely understandable and well-told story, sometimes with flaws (there are a couple of drawn-out dialogue scenes, but they are not too distracting, considering that the dialogues here are reasonable), but sometimes delighting with unexpected twists (for example, one of the less obvious characters, who according to the rules should have stayed alive, is killed during the course of the action).

And thirdly, the special effects. History knows many low-budget horror films with good scenes of violence, and The Deadly Spawn is definitely one of them. Lots of blood, lots of flesh, well-made carnivorous worms — what more could you want? Well, more memorable music wouldn't hurt, but even here it's okay (especially the music during the final credits).

I can confidently place this film alongside Humanoids from the Deep, because the sudden surprise is exactly the same—the title, tagline, and other trappings suggest primitive trash, but in reality it turns out to be a spectacular, surprisingly sane, but truly underrated film.
