Having cut his teeth on feature films like *The Other* and *The Rise of the Evil Dead*, Lee Cronin decided once again to revive one of Universal’s most unsuccessful monster franchises—*The Mummy*.

To avoid confusion with the Fraser films, he even added “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” to the title. But in essence, those films don’t really count, because instead of adventure and comedy, we ended up with a dark, gruesome, and yet compelling body horror film.

Reynor and Costa fit perfectly into their roles as parents who have finally found their lost child, yet are terrified of her. It is precisely their love for Katie that sometimes leads them to do foolish things. That’s why I can’t bring myself to call their actions foolish.

Natalie Grace, meanwhile, is perfectly at home in the role of the possessed and puts many of her peers to shame in this regard.

The director maintains a steady narrative pace and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats—a rare feat in modern horror films, unfortunately. Cronin skillfully builds tension, making the viewer shudder at certain moments and feel completely out of their element. And the expertly crafted final showdown is beyond praise.

All in all, we have a truly worthwhile body horror film for fans of the genre. Cronin continues to grow with each project, which is encouraging.
