An iconic creepy American horror film with a shocking ending directed by Gary Sherman (Poltergeist 3) and written by Ronald Schusett and legendary Dan O'Bannon, as well as a story by Alex Stern and Jeff Millar. Mr. Sherman is known for having released in the same year with this film the scandalous exploitative thriller "The Vice Police" with sadistic violence at the head. A picture with an unexpected, albeit deservedly high rating, rightfully included in the "500 best horror films" according to the IMDb participants. Here are: exciting visual effects and make-up from the unsurpassed Stan Winston (fond memory), technically composed simply brilliantly; excellent acting work of James Farentino, Jack Albertson, Melody Anderson, Christopher Allport and Robert Englund; nudity performed by pretty Lisa Blount; delightful music score from Oscar-winning Joe Renzetti; remarkable camera findings in the field of close-ups. The unhurried narration is diluted with an unhealthy atmosphere that literally permeates the entire body, and the fog is a danger from which you cannot hide. Of the murders, I will single out a bloody piercing with a hook and pouring sulfuric acid into the mouth, followed by skin exfoliation. The reviewed film has an extremely mediocre relationship to classic zombie films, therefore, do not expect flesh tearing with teeth. But the final denouement will surprise you so much that we all will immediately throw our thumbs up! The notorious happy ending was not foreseen here in advance. By the way, one of the most original endings that I have been able to contemplate in my lifetime, and for the beginning of the eighties this is generally nonsense, no "Beginnings" and "Sixth Senses" are worth a candle, but the elite world of cinema does not favor such feints. The world of pop cinema would be better off singing the praises of The Other with Nicole Kidman, floundering from sexual tension in orgasmic fits, coupled with loud clapping. My angry tirade is connected exclusively with the fact that if the ending is unexpected, and the film is low-budget, then this does not mean at all that it should not be included in the category of "150 most shocking endings", because on the contrary, it is definitely worth it.
