Story Movie

This evening didn't start well for Eddie: he decided to steal the wrong car. And William, the owner of the luxury car, took the law into his own hands. Now Eddie is in the clutches of a very dangerous man, and if he doesn't figure out how to weaken the self-proclaimed vigilante's deadly grip, he won't have long to live. A brutal game of cat and mouse begins, culminating in the heart of Los Angeles.

Review 4K Movie

The film can be recommended to fans of Saw, where the main antagonist is the host of a survival game and initially appears as a voice from a speaker controlling the entire process. Our maniac, so to speak, has far fewer victims than John Kramer...

Driven into a corner by fate, Bill Skarsgård's character, while trying to steal someone else's car, finds himself locked inside it, which leads to a whole plot with a tendency to reflect on our society. The film presents a duo consisting of the hero and, in fact, the villain, who clash throughout almost the entire running time. The other characters are not particularly significant and are needed more to deepen the portraits of the main pair of characters. This approach helps to immerse oneself in the worldview of each side in as much detail as possible and draw conclusions about both.

It is interesting that at the beginning I did not empathize with either of them, but by the end I realized that both had reasons for doing what they did. The owner of the trap car was tired of the lawlessness on the streets; he had seen and experienced a lot and was very dissatisfied with the world being built by the new generation. Meanwhile, the criminal who decided to steal the car did so not out of evil motives, but rather the opposite.
And then, at one point, both characters begin to literally talk about why they do what they do. In other words, nothing prevented the filmmakers from turning this synopsis into a psychological thriller with torture, torture, and more torture, but instead we are presented with dialogues, dialogues, and more dialogues, in which both sides justify their actions and engage in debate! They talk about the law, how the state works, why decent people are forced to fear for their lives when living in the same neighborhood as criminals, why it is fair or, conversely, unfair to chop off limbs for crimes, as is done in some Eastern countries, and so on. And all this is interesting even just to listen to, and watching the actors' emotions and the cameraman's work during such discourses is a separate thrill. You don't even have time to think of a response in your head, and the characters continue to heat up the atmosphere, which creates an interesting atmosphere while watching. As a result, interest in what is happening gains momentum with each scene of confrontation between opposing views!

However, the creators did not decide to make this film solely a dialogue-driven movie, which is a pity, as I think it would have been even more interesting. Therefore, the owner of the car, having complete control over the situation, begins to pressure his captive (and ideological opponent) with physical and psychological injuries.
This is to make him agree with the opposing point of view more quickly and stop arguing. This makes the film closer to an action movie than a social thriller, which it is, in part.

The idea is interesting, and the actors perform beautifully. Good work with the depiction of space, both outside and inside the car. There are quite a few sensitive scenes and naturalistic effects! The message is not bad — about the importance of setting the right priorities. And the ending is memorable. The only thing missing is a deeper dive into the main characters' perspectives and pasts. The film is less than two hours long and focuses much more on showing violence, the emotions of violence, and dramatic episodes, so we learn much less about the main duo's past than we would like.
