A massive meteorite crashes into Earth, bringing with it a malevolent three-headed dragon—King Ghidorah. At the same time, Godzilla and Rodan are awakened from hibernation and begin trampling Japanese troops—as well as each other. Then Motra, a giant intelligent moth, decides to convince the pair to stop fighting each other and join forces against the alien foe.

This is one of the most successful films of the early Godzilla era: for the first time, Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra appear not as disparate forces, but as allies against King Ghidorah, and this is precisely what makes the film particularly memorable. The plot may seem simple and even naive at times, but it works thanks to a very lively pacing, spectacular monster clashes, and Toho's signature balance between a serious tone and a touch of sci-fi convention. For 1964, the film looks impressive and still stands up as a bright, energetic, and thoroughly enjoyable kaiju flick.
