Story Movie

By 1999, all of Earth's giant monsters, including Godzilla, had been captured and sent to a small Japanese island for study. However, a group of aliens have managed to subdue the monsters, free them, and once again turn them against humanity. A team of astronauts is tasked to urgently find and eliminate the base of evil aliens, before the monsters controlled by them did not level all the cities of the planet.

Review 4K Movie

I first heard about this movie on one of the Godzilla websites. And, after some time (about 3 years), I watched it. It's a great movie, quite exciting. Everything according to the genre: aliens, kaiju, destruction of cities, people running with fear, wunderwaffles (forgive my Lurchanka), i.e. incredible inventions, etc.

The movie has both pros and cons. Let's start with the pluses. First, there are the kaiju (i.e. monsters) and the number of them. Usually in any movie of tokusatsu genre there are 1-3 monsters, maximum 4 (because of the budget, which is also spent on building miniatures and special effects). BUT here there are 11 of them!!! 11 monsters, both popular and obscure to the general public: Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, Anguirus, Minya, Gorosaurus, Kumonga, Manda (emphasis on the first syllable; the similarity to a swear word is an innocent coincidence), Baragon, Varan, and King Ghidorah!!!!!

Secondly, the scale of destruction. Usually everything was limited to Japan, but in this movie, the alien-led monsters take a world tour: Paris, Moscow, New York, New York, London and Beijing (the last two only on the radio).

But unfortunately, there are some downsides. The first is that too much emphasis is placed on the alien-human struggle. Considering the fact that Toho decided to retire Godzilla with this movie, you'd expect something different, namely that 95% of the movie would consist of multi-meter tall monsters fighting each other, rather than being like a standard B-movie alien movie. Secondly, some of the monsters were extremely rarely shown. Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan were of course the ones showing off the most, with Gorosaurus and Anguirus not far behind them, and everyone else didn't show up until after the middle of the movie. Hey, what an injustice!(Ghidorah doesn't count, he as the final boss should appear at the end.)

However, I really enjoyed the movie. Of course, there will be those who will say that the special effects are cheap, the monsters are rubber, and in general everything looks childish. I'm sorry, it was filmed in 1968, and rubber suits are a specificity of the genre. Okay, forget it.
