I think few people would argue that "Taken" was a watershed film in the work of Liam Neeson. For a long time Neeson has been building a career of a serious dramatic actor and in his old age he suddenly transformed into an action hero and has been pulling this banner for over a dozen years. Another perfomance Neeson in the genre and became "Game of Shadows" by Mark Williams.

The plot of this tape develops around Travis Block, who does the dirty work for the FBI. Not asking too many questions and just doing his duty. But when he decides to leave the game for his granddaughter, the agency decides to get rid of him. Now Travis is ready to challenge the system and shed light on all the conspiracies that lead to the very top of the government.

The creators of this film did not bother to create a simple story, plot twists and the culmination of which is extremely obvious from the very first frames of narration. If this movie had been released in the 90's, it would have definitely gained much more fame. In this case, however, we have a maximally simple story that simply performs its function and does not properly enthrall as one would wish. Including at the expense of Travis' slightly secondary, drawn-out and not-so-convincing dramatic line with his daughter and granddaughter.

This film was directed by Mark Williams, who had already worked as a director with Neeson on "The Honest Thief" and as a producer on "The Advocate." Mark Williams did not succeed in revolutionizing the film and it is in many ways in the same creative manner as The Honest Thief. Creating the impression of a slightly saggy, a little (in places) empty and rather ordinary picture, which is watched more on automatic and off-line mode than at the expense of some interest and enjoyment. Except that the action became much more impressive. But no more than that.

The main driving force of the picture (as well as other works with Neeson) is definitely Liam Neeson himself. Despite his venerable age, Neeson still looks confident and natural in his on-screen persona. Pleased with both excellent acting, and decent execution of action scenes. Aidan Quinn also played quite well. But one could definitely squeeze a lot more out of his character. The same can be said of Emmy Raver-Lammman.
