Two irreconcilable rivals in Formula 1 racing - charming playboy Englishman James Hunt and disciplined perfectionist Austrian Niki Lauda - push themselves to the limits of physical and psychological endurance for the sake of victory. Surprisingly, Formula 1 is the most famous racing series in the world and one of the most famous modern brands in general, with hundreds of millions of fans, but until recently nobody managed to make a good feature film dedicated to one or another era of the Queen of Motorsport. You can, of course, remember the classic 'Grand Prix', but since its release it's been almost half a century, and to associate with the heroes of those years every year seems to be more and more difficult task. There was also 'The Racer' with Stallone at the helm, who in the late nineties carried the idea of making a movie about F1, but it was more of a parody of racing, and that American, having little in common with the Great Circus. As it happens, documentaries are much better at documenting F1 events, but 'Rush' finally bucked that trend, even though it looks like the same documentary at times - it captures the era of those years and F1 itself in particular.

Rush is great, but it's even better if you're an F1 fan. For me, I found the movie to be just as geeky as comic book fans find the Marvel movies to be. The movie consists of so many little things that those who are not into the subject are unlikely to understand, but which at the same time resonated in my heart every time. Clay Regazzoni, Mario Andretti, Jacqui X - for me these names are not an empty sound, as well as the name of such teams as BRM, Lotus, and even the same McLaren, as it seems to me, not everyone knows. Enzo Ferrari in Fiorano, a couple of tiffosi, Goodyear tires, Hunt's 'collar', that deafening roar of engines, the briefing of pilots, 'change rain on slicks', the Hesketh team with its adventurous owner and recognizable reckless style, even the overalls on Regazzoni of the same color - you can continue ad infinitum. The authenticity of the events of those years is conveyed with such meticulous accuracy that one enjoys every minute of watching it, not to mention the fact that it is a very beautiful and marvelous movie in itself. Hats off to Ron Howard - 'Rush' is a real gift for all F1 lovers.

And yet Formula 1 here is no more than a decoration on the background of the struggle between two personalities, two first-class pilots who clashed in an irreconcilable battle in the 1976 season, to which, in fact, the whole movie is devoted. And this is no less worthy part of the movie, if not even more so. Despite the fact that I knew in advance everything that was going to happen, it was impossible to tear myself away from the screen - the movie keeps in such tension, on the contrary - it was even more interesting how they would play out in the end. And the creators did not fail.

I do not want to repeat that in contrast to the calculating, intelligent and honest Lauda acted carefree and burning through life Hunt, who in addition to racing in life was interested in only three things - girls, alcohol and pot. Though it is so. Thanks to the actors, their characters even went beyond their images, it was not just a confrontation - between them there was that connection, which in the movie is usually called chemistry. This is what Daniel Bruhl and Chris Hemsworth were able to achieve - and this, you must agree, is worth a lot. The key moment for this, in my opinion, was the scene of beating up a journalist - I was ready to applaud and shout bravo. Ready peiring literally.

And, again, even though I knew how it would end, the crash at the Nürburgring, as well as the final race in Japan (beauty!) gave me goosebumps, and Lauda's lung-clearing scene.... is one of those episodes that make movies stronger, as well as the characters portrayed in them. And the ending - it's just so right in a good way.

What's interesting is that in modern Formula 1 there are also pilots that you respect, but you'll never seriously root for them. But in the movie I was rooting for Lauda, and not for the more popular, as it would be now, Hunt. And that, in my opinion, is the main virtue of 'Rush'. A movie that you want to revisit. A movie that immediately became a favorite. Don't miss it. And don't fall for the fact that on the poster to the movie Hemsworth seems to be in the foreground - the main character is not him. Even if it disappoints some people.
