Story Movie

In 2032, one of the most dangerous criminals, Simon Phoenix, awakens in a cryo-prison after a 35-year freeze and decides to take the quiet, violence-free San Angeles by storm.

Unable to cope with Phoenix's violent 1990s habits, officials are looking for a cop from those years who can get the upper hand on the 90s criminal. To do so, they unfreeze Sgt. John Spartan, unjustly sentenced to time in cryo-prison for his latest bout with Phoenix.

Review 4K Movie

The guy who since the early 80's of the last century stamped one successful movie after another, the founder of his cult company Silver Pictures, producer Joel Silver after a series of successful films with Arnie Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, decided to work with another mega action star Sylvester Stallone. And although rumor has it that the role of Sly was offered to Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal himself, but somehow the Sly/Silver alliance resulted in a fairly successful brainchild called “The Destroyer”.

Before us we have a rather interesting and unusual new world, the world of the future, in which people are trying to create an ideal peaceful society with a minimum of cruelty and rudeness. A society where smoking, alcohol, caffeine and a lot of other stuff is outlawed, because people there live by the principle “what is harmful is illegal”. That's it!

It is in such a world that Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes), one of the most badass criminals from the 90s of the twentieth century, awakens after a long freeze in a cryo-prison. Reveling in his extreme brutality, he will cause more destruction, murder and much more in the city in just 24 hours, which will make the police officers of the future, who haven't seen a violent death in more than 15 years and are afraid of their own shadows, horrified, only saying: “we're police officers, we're not used to such brutality.”

To catch the madman, the “brave” cops decide to release from cryo-prison another prisoner, a policeman, who once spent two years to catch Phoenix and was convicted for an accident with hostages after their last fight. Now only John Spartan, nicknamed “The Destroyer”(Stallone) - this archaic cop (as they call him in the future) is able to catch the elusive criminal. After all, that's what he was awakened from cryo-sleep for, for one maniac to catch another.

For Stallone, who was already at the peak of his popularity in those years and received fifteen lam for the movie, the movie was another confirmation of his mega action star status. In turn, the role of Phoenix (even after the success of Passenger 57) solidified Snipes as a rising star of the 90s.

In addition to great acting, amazing special effects and beautiful visuals, the picture is also memorable due to the huge amount of humor, jokes and just stereotypes. The poster of “Lethal Weapon 3” (the producer of which is also Joel Silver), hanging in the police station; Sly the seamstress, knitting a sweater; references to Arnie as the president of the future and the name of the library in his honor; and just in what action movie Stallone, going to the final battle with the villain and wearing his iconic black beret will say: “I'll be subtle!”.

The times when the protagonist acts alone, when one guy is enough to storm a building where the bad guys are, unfortunately, are gone. “Demolition Man”, being a vivid representative of the action movie of exactly such formation, of those times, which with age became to look a little different (personally I connect it with script punctures), but did not lose the spirit, style and atmosphere of those glorious times.
