Story Movie

San Diego. Nathan Kane is a modest introvert who works as an assistant manager at a credit trust company. He also has a rare condition—congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis. On Christmas Eve, three robbers dressed as Santa Claus burst into the office, take a large sum of money from the safe, kill the manager and the police who arrived on the scene, and flee, taking employee Sherry, with whom Nathan has begun a romantic relationship, hostage. Upon learning that reinforcements are delayed, Kane rushes after the criminals to save the girl of his dreams.

Review 4K Movie

The poster features the main character, a bank clerk, either in glass or polyethylene. I remembered a similar poster for the series “Dexter.” Only the forensic expert with a quirk, Dexter, looks maniacally at the viewer, announcing a thriller, while Nathan Kane is presented as a funny cutlet surrounded by serving utensils, announcing an action movie steeped in black humor.

I was strongly advised to watch this film, which stars nepobaby, the sons of two Hollywood charismatics. They act well, vividly, juicily. It's just that the themes of body harm and sadism are already a little tiresome. I have no complaints about the film.

The plot is as follows: Nathan Cain is an introverted guy with a strange genetic disorder that makes him unable to feel pain. The kids at school bullied him because of this, teased him, and nicknamed him “Novocaine” after the painkiller. He grew up, miraculously lived to be 25, and fell in love. One fateful day, a gang of thugs robs a bank and makes off with a huge sum of money, taking Nathan's girlfriend hostage. He sets off in pursuit, hoping that he alone, with his bare hands, not even knowing where the safety catch on a gun is, will deal with the guys and free his beloved. A couple of cops are chasing after him. His friend from online video games, “underfed Jason Momoa,” stays in touch by phone.

The film tells an interesting love story between a disabled boy and a bright girl named Sherry. However, Sherry's personal story is not so simple. She is a girl with two sides: sweet and gentle, but she knows how to shoot and fight hard. Life has taught her to pull off scams. She is an interesting character, seemingly positive, but unpredictable, changing her point of view and not saying everything.

Why is it worth watching the film?

For the good acting of Jack Quaid. He masterfully transforms himself: sometimes he plays a clumsy clerk, a computer office boy, and sometimes a fierce and even slightly scary maniacal killer with a crazy look in his eyes.

For the sake of Ray Nicholson's good acting. He plays a psychopathic thug brilliantly, without being repulsive. You fall under his magnetic charm. The secret is in his “family” smile, which is both mesmerizing and frightening at the same time.

For the sake of good narrative dynamics and changing locations—a bank office, city back alleys, a restaurant kitchen, a tattoo parlor, a bachelor's lair, warehouses, etc. A feeling of crazy drive and fast movement.

For the sake of well-staged action. I have never seen such colorful fights in any other action movie. It's very cool and spectacular. And, as in classic Hollywood, the blows are interspersed with black humor.

I was impressed and amused by the showdown in the restaurant kitchen, with the use of hot pans and boiling oil from the deep fryer. The fight with the thug in the tattoo parlor, with the use of a tattoo machine and the destruction of a huge wall-to-wall mirror, is very spectacular. I also liked the sadistic pleasures enjoyed by the brothers while visiting their thuggish friends. And the final bloody massacre in the auto repair shop is simply wonderful. There is a “twist” there - a way of killing a person that I have never seen in any movie before. The fight scenes are interspersed with jokes and gags about insensitivity to pain.

In the end, even if the fights don't interest you with their new style and originality, you can just be charmed by the tie with deer or how Neaton tries cherry pie, afraid to bite his tongue.
