Yes, it is a typical example of the American way of making patriotic films. But despite everything, I liked the film. If we disregard the artistic fiction about the capture of Enigma, the main point of the film is to show the integrity of the main characters and the basic ‘principles’ of heroism. I regret to say that we have lost the ability to make such films. Perhaps this is due to the “nihilism” and cynicism that overwhelmed us after 1991. I would like to reinforce my words by drawing a parallel between the Soviet film The Happy Pike Commander and the Russian film First After God . Both films are about Soviet submariners during the Great Patriotic War, but what a difference in “quality”... This American “model” is closest to Soviet cinema (and at that time, the theme of patriotism was taken very seriously). That's why it looks so good.
