Eleven-year-old Davey is left to fend for himself. His mom is dead, and his dad is busy solving his own problems. So Davey goes headlong into the world of video games. His only friend becomes super agent Jack Flack, the hero of computer games. When a real FBI agent, who could be killed at any minute, gives Davey secret information, the teenager finds himself involved in real spy games. None of the adults believe Davey, so he will have to cope with his dangerous mission alone, except for the help of a girl he knows and Jack Flack. Can the virtual hero be a reliable support for Davey in his collision with reality?

The story tells of a young man, barely older than eleven, who recently lost his mother. Essentially, the boy needs love and support, but the only person close to Davy, his father, spends all his time at work, and even when he is at home, he pays little attention to the boy's fears. That's why young Davy has an imaginary friend, Jack Flack, a cool superhero who, like MacGyver, can fix a tank track with a paper clip and a roll of duct tape or assemble explosives using a roll of wire, flint, and a bottle of vodka. Don't ask me how he does it. Jack Flake is cool, and that says it all.

It would seem that this is an interesting plot that can already be developed, but that was just the prologue, and the story is yet to come. The thing is, Davy, along with his imaginary friend Jack and his real friend Kim, while carrying out another “secret” mission, which consisted of buying lollipops, witness a murder. And not just any murder, but the murder of an FBI agent. The latter, to his credit, manages to pass Davy a cartridge with the game “Cloak and Dagger,” which contains secret government information. Naturally, professional killers, or as Davy later calls them, spies, begin hunting for the main character. It would seem that what can an eleven-year-old boy oppose armed to the teeth gangsters? A lot. Especially if his friend is Jack Flack.

This is an interesting plot twist that brings to mind many good films, films that will be released much later and become quite popular, while Cloak and Dagger will sink into oblivion. And this will happen not because the film was bad or unfinished in some way, but because it did not have a special advertising campaign. And since it did not, only “a couple of curious diggers” will know about it, who, in search of a film to pass the evening with, will stumble upon our guest today. And I think that's wrong. Wrong because this film deserves much more. And I hope that what I say about this film below will encourage viewers to check it out. It's a faint hope, of course, but better that than nothing at all. Here we go.

This film has all the key elements that made spy movies, especially those about James Bond, so popular with mass audiences. We have a charming protagonist who finds himself in a desperate situation and has to face the whole world. And this is not a figurative expression, but a very literal one. After all, Davey finds himself alone against the adult world, a world that poses a serious danger, but at the same time, no one wants to help the kid, believing that he made up the story about spies. In fact, he's just a child, and children tend to exaggerate and live in a world of their own dreams. We have the bearded hacker Maurice, who runs a video game store and is ready to come to the aid of the main characters. We have people who are chasing the heroes and want to kill them. Moreover, the criminals shown in this film are not fools, and they are very meticulous. The people who are chasing Davy are literally breathing down his neck and don't give the young hero any breaks. Ultimately, Davy is an accidental witness, and it's customary to get rid of them. So the film will feature car chases, shootouts, and cat-and-mouse games, and the only difference from “adult” action films will be the fact that the main character of the film is a child.

But if that's not enough for the viewer, the film also raises psychological issues, namely the relationship between father and son. And yes, Davy's father is a good man, but he stopped believing in miracles long ago and began to live in the real world, and therefore does not pay attention to his son, who says that gangsters are hunting him, like in a cheap action movie. Meanwhile, the young man needs a role model. Someone he could be proud of, which is why Davy's imaginary friend has his father's face. And this raises another question. Does Davy really need his imaginary friend? After all, Jack Flack is essentially the voice of reason for the boy and doesn't tell him anything he doesn't already know or feel. And the scene in which the conflict of interests and values of the characters takes place is much deeper than it seems at first glance.

In conclusion, I would like to say that the viewer is presented with a good and exciting film that has been undeservedly forgotten. This film should be a great pastime for children, as well as their parents who have not lost their belief in miracles. So, if you fall into this category of people, I highly recommend watching this film.
