After producing the rather unusual film Georgia Peaches in 1980, James Sbardellati decided to try his hand at directing for the first time with the challenging genre of fantasy. It is difficult in the sense that, despite its boundless scope, this genre is not easy to implement in such a way that the film will be watched not only in the year of its release, but also at least a decade later. Sbardellati's “first pancake” turned out to be not exactly a “feast,” but quite “edible,” especially for those who watched the film in the era of video salons, when acting and even the plot were not the most important things. but rather the filling in the form of a fictional world, which was so pleasant to savor against the backdrop of “socialist realities.”

The character of Rick Hill did not particularly interest me, probably because Conan the Barbarian of “all nations” — Arnold Schwarzenegger — had already been filmed in 1982, and he had no charisma to counterbalance Deathstalker. However, Deathstalker enjoyed well-deserved popularity precisely because of its “spiciness.” I am surprised by the recommended viewing age - 0+! If you don't know this film from your memories of youth, you can show this “fairy tale” to your child and then spend a year answering their questions!

And finally, a few words about the music. Even in bad movies, good music can sometimes “save” a weak plot. In Deathstalker, there was nothing to save, because the soundtrack by Oscar Ocampo was a nice addition to the action on screen.
