Four decades later, the world once again saw a trashy black comedy superhero movie about a janitor who turned into the Toxic Avenger after falling into a pit of toxic waste.

The 2023 Toxic Avenger is, as you might guess, a reboot of the cult B movie released way back in 1984. The plot is roughly the same, the actors are different, of course, as are the budgets, which are completely incomparable, and therefore the effect of what is shown on screen is completely different.

Although the special effects have improved compared to 1984, this does not affect the “substance” of the film. It is still as gory, bloody, and trashy as it was 40 years ago!

Dinklage is probably not the most obvious choice for the lead role in this film. Especially since, a decade ago, Schwarzenegger himself was in talks to participate in the project, but decided not to wait for it to get off the ground and left to star in Terminator: Genesis.

However, Dinklage, despite his obscurity, is one of the strongest pieces of the Toxic Avenger puzzle. He skillfully presented his character as a monster with feelings and his own drama.

The film itself was obviously shot with great respect for the original source material. And this is no coincidence, because Macon Blair is a big fan of the old Toxic Avenger projects!

Trash, blood, dark humor, and the notorious “bad but still cool” effect are what viewers will definitely remember.

The film is really harsh. Due to the violent scenes and abundance of blood, it was unable to find a distributor for a long time after filming and editing were completed. That is why it was released in 2025, rather than in 2023, when it was filmed.

And of course, this film is not for family viewing. Children will definitely have nightmares after watching such films and will look for Toxy under their beds!

It is clear that ‘Toxic Avenger’ does not claim to be something serious, such as the universal love of the viewer. However, in its niche - in the category of B-movies, in exploitation body horror - it is good and attractive.
