Story Movie

While still in middle school, Kim Dok-cha began reading a web novel about the end of the world and a hero destined to restore the world to its original state. On the day his favorite work ended, he was the only one who had read it to the end, and, disappointed with the ending, he wrote a letter to the author. When he receives a reply with an offer to rewrite the ending, the end of the world suddenly arrives, and Kim Dok-cha finds himself the only one who knows what to do.

Review 4K Movie

Hello, I have been a fan of ‘Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy’ for a long time, I have read the manhwa and the novel. The news about the release of the film excited me greatly, as it did other ORV fans. After the release of various trailers for the film, I realized more and more that I shouldn't expect much from the film.

Perhaps for those who are unfamiliar with the original, the film will seem normal, but just know that the atmosphere that was in the original is simply not there.

First: the heroes' weapons. Pistols and rifles are out of place here. The story used swords, which were emphasized in battles, but what do we see in the film? Yoo Jun-hyuk kills everyone with a pistol, which sounds ridiculous, but it's no more ridiculous than Bihyun's appearance at the beginning. What kind of nonsense is this? Did they run out of budget? Did it all go to Jisu? The moment in the original when Bihyun appears in the subway car was terrifying and intensely suspenseful. He is a demon, a creature who is only interested in viewing constellations. He used fear to silence everyone in the car, but in the movie, this nonsense appears, shoots lasers from his eyes, and that's it? Where is the tension, where is the fear?!?! Further on, where is the meeting with Lee Hyun-sung, where is the scene where he calms everyone down, thereby revealing himself as a character? It's just not there. The moment when the subway car doors open didn't add anything (the subsequent flashbacks didn't help either).

Next, the cast, there's something to say about them too. Do they even know what the original hero looks like? It's as if they took the names of the characters and some moments from the original and that's it, here's your movie. It seemed like the writers read the original with their grandmother's left heel. The characters of some of the characters don't match, which is also a big minus.

Now it seems that I am writing all this with bias, from the position of a crazy fan of the original, but I still remember the emotions I felt when I first started reading the manhwa and the novel. I remember how my hands trembled at the beginning because of Bihyeon and his demonic nature, how I first saw Lee Hyun-sung, Yoo Sang-woo, Jeon Hee-won, Gong Pil-do, and Lee Gil-yeon for the first time. They were so alive, and I read the chapters one after another, unable to take my eyes off the lines. In those moments, I felt like Kim Dok-cho myself. It was simply magical. I had read Korean novels and manhwa before, but not all of them were so interesting. I lived through every scene myself, crying, rejoicing, laughing, and getting angry, but there was nothing in the movie. It seemed like I was just watching cut scenes from the original work, and that was it. There were no emotions, so I am very disappointed. My advice to everyone is to read the manhwa or novel, as this is the only way you will understand what I am talking about. The further you get into the plot, the more interesting it becomes. Perhaps the director and screenwriters wanted to create a new project, taking something from the original, but it turned out badly. If they had left some moments untouched, it would have been better.
