Review 4K Movie

This was one of the first movies starring Nicolas Cage that I saw in the ’90s. Later on, whenever I watched TV shows about helicopters, I’d always spot footage from this very movie. It depicts the lives of American pilots, intertwined with everyday life and interpersonal relationships, plus a bit of war and gunfights. The U.S. Army is always portrayed on the big screen as something wonderful and exciting, and for some reason, I want to believe that things are the same in real life.

Tommy Lee Jones made a huge contribution to the plot and dialogue; he plays a seasoned pilot burdened by family and children, who believes that a man over 40 is already considered an old-timer. I really liked the boxing match scene between Tommy Lee and Cage, as well as the powerful right hook in the bar from Nicholas, who spends the entire movie fighting for the heart of the young and slender Sean Young. They chose the actor for the role of the main villain very wisely—the guy didn’t utter a single word throughout his entire role, yet every viewer already wants him to die in agony.

The film also touches on a rather rare aspect of human relationships—the teacher/student dynamic—especially considering that the young hothead is more talented than the seasoned veteran. And while we initially witness hostility between them, the main characters’ animosity eventually turns into friendship. And of course, the iconic line from the film’s dialogue:

“‘Oh Jack, save my ass.
- Don’t touch her or I’ll make a piece of shit out of you!’”
