Story Movie
More than 20 years ago, aliens made their first contact with Earth. People were ready for everything from hostile invasion to incredible technological breakthrough. Neither happened. The aliens turned out to be refugees from their own planet, and while the world community was deciding what to do with them, a temporary camp was organized for them in South African Area No. 9.
Review 4K Movie
Fiction or reality?
What do we know about movie aliens?
1. Our greatest technical achievements seem to be prehistoric digging sticks in front of their smallest bells and whistles.
2. They are perverts, and love to put monstrous experiments on people.
3. They are very angry and aggressive.
4. They hate America, so they always attack it first.
5. They are somewhat similar to Emireh and Bay, in that they strive to blow up any historical monument, in particular in New York.
With the exception of the first point, District 9 breaks all stereotypes about alien races. It was like this ...
The most common day, a huge spaceship hovered over the African city of Joburg. It is not known whether they flew past the Earth or decided to visit us. Whether they counted on meeting with bread and salt or thought to enslave people. It is only known that some systems in the ship were covered with a copper basin, and one and a half million aliens were stuck here for a long time. It is also known that people are dealing with the working class, and the command of the ship has disappeared somewhere.
People did not provide bread and salt, but instead (largely due to the demands of ordinary residents) they drove them to a reservation, to the so-called district No. 9. There the newcomers live in terrible conditions. Aliens have to live in rotten shacks, local bandits constantly make money on them, and from time to time, people put experiments on an alien race.
The focus is on an ordinary employee of the MNU (a service created to control aliens). A simple guy who is instructed to hand each newcomer an eviction summons (they are moved to a kind of concentration camp). By chance, he gets into serious trouble and becomes the target of harassment by the service he previously worked for. He flees to area 9, where he finds support in the person of one of the humanoids. They unite and become the only hope for the salvation of hundreds of thousands of living beings.
The film has just started on the screens, and there are already so many flattering reviews. And I will not be afraid to join the opinion of the majority, and I will say that District 9 is one of the events of this year, and so far the second since the Guardians, which really amazed and liked the film this year. What is this "District No. 9"?
We are dealing with satire. This does not mean that you will be allowed to laugh the entire film, satire does not have to cause laughter. Here it is a tough and heavy satire on the ulcers of modern society. First of all, discrimination and racial intolerance. At first, aliens lived side by side with humans, but were clearly deprived of their rights. Everywhere in Joburg there were signs for People Only, but nevertheless, the mean people were not happy about that. They protested, and yet they succeeded in sending the aliens to the closed area. All this is only because they were different from people in appearance. The rotten psychology of people has long been known "You are not like us, it means the enemy", here again it is played in a new way. Guests are immediately given a nickname. People shout "Freaks" and they themselves are not going to look at themselves, at their ugliness (I immediately recall a satirical moment from the film, where a man with a "little", not a pretty face, speaks of the aliens as freaks).
Next, we see another facet of human psychology. It is pleasant for a person to feel power and superiority over someone. Aliens are used by all and sundry, bandits sell them canned cat food (which has become a drug for aliens) for a lot of money, MNU sets up experiments and tries to master their weapons. And the unfortunate creatures suffer. Here (as it has been noticed many times before me), there is a reference to the history of African reservations. Perhaps this problem has already been solved (although it's hard to believe), but it's not a fact that such stories will no longer be repeated. The creators pay attention to these problems in such an original way, and plus they also joke about other spheres of life, people, over the same media, and society's reactions to them, even over the rituals of African tribes.
The filling is very impressive, serious and pressing problems. Execution does not lag behind. First of all, it is a balancing act between different parts of the film. That is, there is mockery, action, and, of course, drama. But, moreover, none of the other crushes. You can smile at an alien semblance of chicken fights, at an alien in a bra, the same fake media photo (I won't talk about it in detail, you'll see for yourself), but you won't 'laugh' the whole film. Since the 'District' is a very difficult drama, in which it is not a sin to let a tear go, which no one is trying to survive by force, the events shown just really break through. Fans of drive will remain satisfied, because the entire film keeps the viewer in tension. With every passing second, the film's drive picks up steam, peaking in a furious shootout at the end. But the film by no means develops into a pure action movie.
What else is captivating is the realism of the events. No, I will not repeat about allusions to satire, I mean that there is no pathos at all. There is no heroic character, because the main character is an ordinary person, first of all he wants to save his own skin, and only then he realizes that he simply has to forget about selfishness, for the sake of others and for himself. Don't be indebted to your own conscience. People are presented as they really are. A rotten mass that believes everything that is told to it. A crowd that is afraid and, as a result, hates everything that is not like them. Everyone around is pursuing only their own selfish goals. Nobody gets tested for lice. Neither the wife, nor the friends of the protagonist. What else to say, another painting showing the 'beautiful' race of people in all their glory.
As a result, we got a powerful satirical drama. A film that takes you by the throat from the very beginning and does not let go until the end. Topical issues, original performance. In short, I recommend. Go to the movies, it's not a sin to give your money away to the creators of such a movie.
