Review 4K Movie

Foxy Brown is one of Pam Grier's early films. It was originally conceived as a sequel to the highly successful Coffy, but director D. Hill rewrote the script and renamed the main character. Thus, Foxy Brown was born - a typical representative of 1970s blaxploitation. The lead role was played by Coffy star Pam Grier. The film also features Sid Haig, a remarkable actor who can carry even the weakest project.

What I liked about the film: the cool music and the chic retro atmosphere. It seems that over the years, Foxy Brown has only gotten better, and now all its flaws have imperceptibly turned into strengths. I liked the filming and editing, but they are quite typical for their time. Nothing outstanding...

What I didn't like about the film: the lack of intrigue, which was abundant in Coffy. I also didn't like how the creators of Foxy treated the character of Pam. Her character became uninteresting and two-dimensional. The director exploits poor Greer and her naked body to the fullest. And while in Coffy all this seems appropriate, here it is more annoying. The synopsis is kind of dull: there's this cool girl Foxy, her brother ratted her out, her boyfriend was killed, revenge, revenge, revenge... Haven't we seen this somewhere before?

In short, Pam Grier has been turned into some kind of James Bond, and I don't like it at all. Although, perhaps those who are not familiar with the original (i.e., Coffy) will like this film. Despite all its flaws, it also has a number of merits. As mentioned earlier, these include the atmosphere and editing, individual episodes featuring Sid Haig and Greer, the music, and the dialogue. The dialogue is very cool, in the spirit of Quentin Tarantino.
