Story Movie

Vesper 4K 2022 Ultra HD 2160p
The Earth of the Future. Humanity is on the brink of extinction. Although technology has reached an incredibly high level, humans fight for life every day with nature, which has evolved and turned into a ruthless killer. It is up to 13-year-old girl Vesper to restore balance and shake the scales on which the fate of the human species rests.

Review 4K Movie

The preview of the movie 'Vesper' throws around the words 'land of the future', 'high technology', 'people fighting with nature for life'. The only famous actor in the cast is Eddie Marsan, who will predictably play the villainous uncle. The production and the director are Lithuanian, but the actors are mostly English.

What is this movie about? Mr. geneticists have made a mess of things, almost all the animals on the planet are extinct, many plants have mutated and become dangerous to humans. There's a lot of tension with food production - genetically programmed seeds (WHO?) don't want to yield more than once, and since the deli club doesn't work in the future, the main character, 13-year-old Vesper (Raffiella Chapman), has to get her own food.

Given the multitude of famous post-ap movies, the film's signboard looks interesting and potentially appealing to the viewer before viewing, but the world of the future looks suspiciously like a Russian village of the late 20th century (I mean the sets and costumes), the world conditions announced above are almost never realized and remain 'on paper': fragments of the film where we see technologies of the future are few, shots with altered nature hardly more than 6-7 minutes of screen time. If you don't read the synopsis, but immediately turn on the film, you will not immediately realize that you are in the future. With the stated genre of 'drama' the main character undergoes no development, she is happy, sad, hysterical, crying and laughing with plus or minus one facial expression. A flaw in the actress? An unfortunate choice of behavior by the writer/director? I wouldn't presume. The movie doesn't even reveal half of its supposed potential, the main character is not always interesting to watch, and the logic of the characters' decisions starts to blur after half of the movie's running time and finally gets lost in the end.

Is it all that bad? No. The rare shots of altered nature that are there are pleasantly satisfying. The graphics in the film are above average.

There are two interesting characters in the film against which Vesper gets lost:

The main character's uncle, Jonas (Eddie Marsan), a local bigwig involved in dubious business ventures. The model soulless character, ready to sell out anyone for his well-being. A typical Marsan role, he is in it organically and as convincingly as possible.

Camellia (Rosie McEwan) is a new acquaintance of Vesper, who happens to meet the main character. This is the best acting performance in the film, the most interesting character who grabs your attention from the first scene. We look forward to seeing this actress in other films in the future.

There are some interesting graphical and plot moments in 'Vesper', which I won't mention, but they get lost in the background. Do you want to turn the film off while watching it? Sometimes yes.

To summarize:

Good: the acting in the latter roles, the work of the artists.

Bad: Acting in lead roles, realization of intent, dramatic component of the film.

Who to watch? Lovers of the genre postap, as well as those who are not familiar with this genre at all. Because of the potential boredom of watching and the lack of originality, the film is not recommended to anyone, but if you really want to, try it.

Should I watch this film because of my high praise for the acting of Eddie Marsan and Rosie McEwan? It seems to me that this criterion is insufficient and the film has more minuses than attractions. What did director Christine Bosit want to tell us with this film? I can't answer that.
