Review 4K Movie
For me, Fast and Furious is a franchise that watching it while turning off my brain and relaxing once every couple years has become a tradition. The first Fast and Furious I went to the movies for was the 6th one back in 2013 - it was the first movie about Dominic Torreto's family that I saw at all. After it, I watched the previous 5 installments and didn't miss a single installment at the movies for the next 10 years. For me, it's pure attraction and dumb entertainment for once, which should be watched on the big screen.
And it so happened that watching one or another part of Fast and Furious came to different periods of my life: the above-mentioned 6th movie I watched as a schoolboy, the next 7th part I went to while studying in college, the 8th in the institute, the previous 9th in the pandemic and here is the time of the anniversary. Needless to say, the first movie came out when I was still in kindergarten - these movies just covered my whole life. Fast and Furious is about stability. Which makes it even more symbolic that the 10th movie is, for the most part, a sequel to the exact 6th installment I went to see 10 years ago. The circle has closed.
I love, by the way, that Fast and Furious seems to be the only franchise that doesn't shy away from numbers in its title. While other franchises hide the numbering after the sequel and sometimes even right from the sequel and replace it with subtitles so as not to look stupid, Vin Diesel's movies (and these are his movies, despite the directors and studios) do not hide anything from anyone, but honestly continue to write the number of the movie up to the tenth, no matter how absurd it looks. I've always respected the Fast and Furious movies for bending their line to the end. They are, among other things, probably the last major Hollywood action movies that are still no stranger to exploiting female sexualization and toxic masculinity while completely ignoring LGBT people, and no one complains - it's just like 20 years ago! Fast and Furious is about stability.
As for the movie itself - it is, as many have noticed, Infinity War in a world of cars and racing. And from Marvel the movie borrowed not only the division of the finale into two (or even three) parts, but also the principle of using all the characters from the previous parts (except for Tokyo Drift, of course) and dividing them into several plot branches acting in parallel. On one hand it's a workable scheme, but on the other it feels secondary not only to themselves, but to Marvel as well.
And, since this is only the first part of the story's ending, I can't rate it fully because it ends on nothing. But I will highlight some points. For example, it's unclear why Dominic and Letty's son is black, and more importantly, in past installments, when he was a baby, he was freaking white!
It was also unclear why Dom's brother, who was still a villain in the last movie, is here not just accepted into the family like all the previous antagonists, but has had a drastic change of character. John Cena here plays not a sullen ambassador, but a dull-witted, kindly big guy, a la Peacemaker, who also takes care of his nephew.
And, of course, there are a lot of questions to the logic of events, characters' behavior, violation of all laws of physics, but it's already a chip of the franchise - it's pointless to throw such claims to Forsazh for a long time.
From the pluses of the movie we can single out, as always, action, direction, a couple of funny moments, beautiful shots and women (in principle, if you are a fan of Fast and Furious or at least have a normal attitude to this kind of movies, you can watch), but the main advantage is certainly Jason Momoa - how he burns off! The motivation is banal, there are a lot of questions to the realization, but Jason plays it off to the fullest - he just blows away the whole 2,5 hours! He created something between Joker and Khal Drogo. This is now one of his best roles. Dominic hasn't had a villain who does his own pigtailed nails yet. How funny it will be if he too, like all the previous baddies, is welcomed into the family at the end.
Overall, I was satisfied, but of course, to give a normal assessment, we have to wait for the 11th, and possibly the 12th part. To think you and I lived to see Fast and Furious 10, no joke. I remember how everyone was lamenting 'what a nonsense', 'soulless conveyor belt', 'but come to think of it, there will be a Fast and Furious 10' - and now we live in this reality and it's not the limit. Is anyone sure that this run will really be the last and everything will stop at part 12? I'm not. Because Fast and Furious is about stability. Our grandchildren will watch Fast and Furious 100, you bet.
