At least the famous show 'Saturday Night Live' - that's where almost all of America's most famous comedians came from - Steve Martin, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy, etc. and many of their movie characters also appeared on the show for the first time.

Austin Powers first appeared in this show thanks to Mike Myers' imagination, and then, almost a decade later, he found a new life in a big movie - and what a life!

The movie with a small budget, which was conceived as a parody of James Bond, and as an attempt of almost forgotten by then Myers to return to the screens turned out to be a resounding, incredible, inexplicable success.

The movie turned into a cult literally from the first days of rental life, 2 sequels were created, which became blockbusters, the series became one of the most successful in the history of cinema, and Mike Myers turned into one of the most sought-after comedians in Hollywood. And for good reason, I'll tell you. Because the comedy is awesome, baby!

First of all, the comedy is practically author's comedy, because behind the whole movie is one single person - Mike Myers, the creator of the original images, writer, producer, performer of the two main roles.

Myers is really a great comedian - he manages to charm the audience in a completely disgusting way - the direct opposite of any hero. Crooked - and dirty-toothed, shaggy, hair-covered, baggy short ochkarik turned into a farce not only Bondiana, but also the entire genre of the action movie, prostebav it along with all its heroes, heroines, superweapons and supervillains.

Mike Myers not only managed to do that, he managed to bring a new, fresh spin to the movie with an old style that, not surprisingly, appealed to people all over the world. It's the style, the badass gore and jokes of the '60s. This is the realm of colorful costumes, the cult of fun and silliness.

Austin Powers - the image of the collective, it concentrates all the shortcomings of all superheroes in the movie as well as in Dr. Evil - all the anger and stupidity of all movie bastards.

By the way, the villains in the film are simply delightful - the role of Dr. Evil is many times superior to the role of Powers and is a kind of mini-masterpiece. His every line is a quote! And in general, the villains make fun of each other in a scary way. And Elizabeth Hurley is the most successful choice for the role of Powers' girlfriend, because she, firstly, looks perfect, and secondly, very well ironizes her role. Neither Heather Graham nor Beyoncé Knowles achieved this later on.

I don't know if the movie succeeded as a parody, but the comedy was hilarious! The parodic motives, of course, are weak, but the movie looks good as it is. You can, of course, argue about the quality of humor of this picture - there are vulgar jokes, there are just vulgar, but there are just great episodes.

In this movie proportionally and without prejudice to each other merged parody, situation comedy and youth comedy. At the same time in vulgarity Myers managed to hold the line and did not pass into bad taste. By the way, I didn't like the movie at first, but then I found some zest and it turned out to be almost a masterpiece of comedy.
