When director Jim Henson in 86 created a unique fantasy Labyrinth 4K Blu-ray, he could not even dream that this musical fairy tale with the American musician David Bowie so like the audience. The high-tech HDR10 video and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio will take viewers into the magical world that Jim Henson brilliantly directed. The young American teen Sara (Jennifer Connelly) is the main character of the film, who will spend a boring evening with her naughty little brother. Spoiled child quickly annoys the girl, and she is angry to utter words that she should not have said. Sarah unknowingly recites a spell, after which the baby disappears from the cradle and Jared (David Bowie), the lord of evil goblins, appears before the girl. The wizard tells the frightened Sarah that in a few hours her younger brother will be a goblin if she fails to find him in the fantasy world. The boy is in a castle in the midst of a huge labyrinth filled with magical creatures, not all of whom will be friendly with a stranger.

The cult fantasy film now looks less epic than it did at its premiere. The sets, computer graphics, and sometimes silly actions of the characters make you look at what's happening with a more critical eye, noticing all the inaccuracies, but on the other side of the scale is the great David Bowie, whose musical numbers, movements, and facial expressions are a delight.

The plot is simple, but entertaining within the framework of a fairy tale. Young Jennifer Connelly, driven by the spirit of a teenager, wishes that all her troubles and worries, namely looking after her younger brother, would vanish in an instant. Fairy-tale rhymes, spells, sudden otherworldly forces, and... the stage of realization of what has been done. The film highlights the girl's behavior, projecting the mistakes in her desires. The conditions for saving an innocent child and the land of the goblin king are quite well presented. David Bowie bursts into the frame and steals all the attention, so the viewer does not feel any weak episodes.

The quest, the ultimate goal of which is to reach the goblin king's castle. Guarding Moria from gnomes and hobbits, yes. A maze of trials, time is limited, so Connelly reveals the whole mystery of the obstacles to the viewer. At first seemingly mysterious, the tall maze loses its original appearance. Secret passages, strange inhabitants, allies, and enemies. Like the Triwizard Tournament at Hogwarts, the maze presents unexpected obstacles and attempts to find a shortcut, but soon the image dissipates and the viewer is presented with an ordinary journey to the goal.

Encounters with a gnome and a huge but kind monster named Lyudo add significance to the journey. The film presents not only physical trials, but also emotional ones. In the course of the journey, the characters change, acquiring good qualities, loyalty, and friendship. The obstacles are sometimes surprising and sometimes seem shaky, but they convey the main idea to the viewer: mutual assistance. Courage is reflected in the magical creatures who knew nothing but punishment from the goblin king. In turn, the appearance of a friend in such a dangerous place allows us to look at the situation from a different angle.

No prophecies or chosen ones! There is a dangerous desire that must be canceled in a matter of hours. Bowie, in his gloomy path, skillfully engages in playful games, bitter indignation, and a beautiful musical. The antagonist will always have a majestic appearance, a frightening gaze, and his own separate song for each situation. In places, the labyrinth reveals the secondary nature of the scenery, its narrow focus, and its uniform color palette, but individual locations, such as the stinking swamp, the landfill, and the dungeon, stand out against the backdrop of monotony.

The denouement is exciting with the heroine's acceptance in the magical land. The king's motives were very prosaic, which ultimately does not correspond to the message of the film. Labyrinth presented an amazing magical world, an otherworldly land, and “very strange things” with the young Connelly. For its time, the film provided the significance of magic and beautiful musical numbers by Bowie, and Jennifer became more recognizable and popular. In fact, her film debut was with Sergio Leone.
