After the death of his parents, William Blake, a young accountant, comes to the Wild West in hopes of finding work, where, by the evil will of chance, a bounty is placed on his head. Wounded in the chest near his heart, he is nursed back to health by an Indian named Nobody. He mistook the boy for the poet William Blake, whose poems had fallen into his heart.

The plot is based on the works of William Blake, a writer known in certain circles, and, as far as I understand, it is precisely because of the direct quotations from his works that the film has no official translations.

Trying to interpret it without knowledge of the original source is a difficult undertaking, and I highly doubt that those who write glowing reviews and give it a 10 out of 10 understand why they are doing so. It is more likely that “it is customary here,” since in some circles the film is considered cult, but personally, I do not understand how a secondary product can have cult status.

For people unfamiliar with Blake's work, it is extremely difficult to grasp the meaning of what is happening.

In terms of structure, the film is a road movie consisting of novellas, each of which apparently refers to the poet's works. But since Mr. Blake was working in London 200 years ago, the film is set in the stereotypical Wild West, and was shot in the turbulent 1990s, it is practically impossible to guess what the authors had in mind.

Yes, each novella can be interpreted, and the overall plot has a right to exist. But there is no clear overall structure here. A scene begins, someone quotes something from Blake's work, and the action begins, the scene ends, and the next one begins... If you change something around or delete it altogether, it won't affect the meaning much...

To sum up, if you perceive what is happening as arthouse in a spherical vacuum, then it's “good,” but nothing more. After watching it, there is no original aftertaste or desire to familiarize yourself with the original source.
