Story Movie

Farmer Arthur Hoggett is injured while trying to repair a well on the farm with his piglet Babe. The farmer's wife Esme has to take care of the farm, but she can't cope — they risk losing the farm at the end of the month because of debt. Esme takes Babe to the city for a fair in an attempt to save the farm. At the airport, they are detained by security on suspicion of drug trafficking and miss their connecting flight. Upon arriving in the city, Esme struggles to find a hotel that accepts guests with animals. So Esme and Babe end up at Miss Flum's hotel, which also runs a shelter for stray animals.

Review 4K Movie

Joseph Brodsky was right when he said that the world we have entered does not have a good reputation. And the rather saccharine picture of a cute little piglet that begins the film fully confirms this argument. In the place where the gentle idyll of animals seems to begin, trials will immediately commence, such that the scene of the accidental hanging of a bulldog will seem innocent in comparison. The invasion of the animal shelter by representatives of the sanitary inspection will be similar to Alex's gang's visit to the homes of innocent residents in A Clockwork Orange. Monkeys, dogs, and other animals fleeing together are much more eloquent than many actors. And the apotheosis is a disabled dog with a wheeled stand for its hind legs. Its agony, arrival in a kind of paradise, and return hit the mark. The expected denouement, with each ridiculous leap by Magda Shubanski, comes at the initial comfortable point of a sweet children's holiday. This makes the film all the more valuable and profound.

Probably many people will find the very idea of the film irritating. After all, the cute ‘Hachiko’ is much more decent and understandable than a kind pig. Accepting a piglet as a hero, we must also take into account that for many people it is nothing more than food (or rather, a moving semi-finished product). This means that, despite its simplicity, the film insists on things that are much more serious than a touching attitude towards animals. It is nothing more than a cute fairy tale with a much more constructive message than most of Charles Perrault's works.
