Review 4K Movie
I remember very well the feelings that I experienced from watching the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy at once. The first thing I said was 'cool', the second was 'not enough'. Yes, yes, I was not enough then nine-plus hours of screen time. What can we say about the 'Hobbit' - some 'pathetic')) more than two hours. 'Cool, but not enough' (c).
Perhaps I will now say utter nonsense and ardent Tolkienists will fall upon me in righteous anger, but in my mind, Peter Jackson (PJ) has long been, if not the co-author of the great Professor Tolkien, then the successor of his traditions, for sure. He is very sensitive and careful about the legacy that the classic left us. In fact, PJ, this shaggy uncle who looks like a hobbit and a dwarf, for the fourth time in a little over a dozen years takes the gullible viewer by the hand and leads him not backstage, not to the set, but to the very thing real Middle-earth, opening through a hobbit hole the entrance to this wonderful world of Tolkien. Peter Jackson is great if only because he does not deceive this most gullible spectator. He gives him everything that he is a fan of, what he himself lives with. PJ is a Tolkien fan in the director's chair. The only pity is that you can't make films for more than 5 hours ...)
Now to The Hobbit. It was the most anticipated film of the year for me. To get to the show yesterday (the second day of the show here in Estonia) I had to kindly deceive two people, overcome the whims of the car and the storm, which was played out completely inappropriately. And it was worth it. The film, from the first to the last second, was worth waiting for, to go to it.
The fact that the wonderful Bilbo would come out of Martin Freeman was clear from the very beginning, from the first day of his approval for the role. This actor, loved by many, in the role of the 'second number' in 'Sherlock', did not get lost at all here, in such a diverse company, in such a powerful caste. Not only did he not let all those screaming, raging, noisy gnomes outshine himself, but, absolutely in a hobby style, patiently waited for his chance to prove himself. Freeman has a very suitable facial expression for the role of Bilbo, and the right energy - he is not a fountain of energy, he is a slightly hidden, but very powerful source.
Gnomes. They are beautiful. Every single one. But I would especially single out three: 1) Bofur (I can't help myself - I love Nesbitt) 2) Thorin (favorite character of the book after Bilbo and Gandalf) 3) Keely (I really liked the image that Aidan Turner embodied). The gnomes are exactly what they should be - noisy, cocky, stubborn to the extreme, proud and even proud, but so sociable and their own that it is impossible to take your eyes off.
Sinister. Also, everything, as if on selection, is handsome. Not in terms of external beauty, of course) but in terms of the amusement of the created images. Azog, the High Goblin and their minions are very masterful. Well, Smaug, who, for obvious reasons, was shown only in snatches, is also cool.
Personally, as a fan of Tolkien, everything was enough for me: dynamism, and jokes, and drama, and battles, and landscape beauties. Alas, the hall, in which, I suspect, not everyone was fans of Middle-earth, was bored in places. However, these are his problems, the audience.
- You will have something to tell when you get home.
- You promise that I'll be back?
- No ... But if it happens, you will not be the same.
Rather, you want a DVD so that you can slowly, carefully, lovingly examine all the smallest details of the next Tolkino-Jacksonian masterpiece. Only the first part of the trilogy has been released, and I'm already looking forward to how I can watch all three parts at once ... and how I will miss these heroes when everything is over, and how I will believe that PJ will film something else from the Professor.
