The people of Dune await the coming of the Messiah, who will lead them to a holy war against the evil Harkonnen dynasty. And the Messiah is. It becomes the young Paul Atreides, the son of Duke Leto, who was treacherously killed by the Harkonnen with the approval of the Emperor. Paul faces a great mission that will forever change the fate of the entire galactic empire ...

Review 4K Movie

Looked at Alan Smithy's Dune snider.

The director never hid his negative attitude towards the experience and the final result. And this is really so bad. The film has collected, it seems, all the shortcomings of retrograde cinema science fiction. In '84, when Alien, Terminator and Star Wars came out, it seems completely unforgivable.

If the first part of the book is adapted, in principle, normally, perhaps not at all exciting, then the second and third appear as an hour and a half set of poorly connected scenes and segments, all the gaps of which could be filled, given the approach and pace chosen by the director / producer, probably only by adding the same amount of screen time, that is, bringing the total timing of hours to five. (At least Villeneuve learned this lesson.)

Fans of science fiction in general and the Frank Herbert cycle in particular (like me) can be viewed from purely cultural considerations.

Why are fans of David Lynch (also me) watching this movie, I don’t even know. Of the curious, perhaps: the cool design of the "Voice" with the help of sound distortions, which then evolves into the well-known wigwam-speak; and anticipating David Bowie's Teapot interdimensional navigators in distinctive metal vats.

Aesthetically, too, "well, this" - after all, this is an early Lynch, leaning towards freakishness and all sorts of abominations. What's really beautiful about the film is the scenery. True, according to the rule of the already classical Lynch dichotomy, all these beautiful surroundings only further emphasize the ugliness that dwells in them.
