The Guns of Navarone 4K 1961 Ultra HD 2160p
Greece. Aegean Sea. 1943 year. Germany is about to make a blitzkrieg to the island of Keros. Two thousand British soldiers are trapped on this tiny island. They, exhausted and helpless, had only a week to live. The evacuation of British soldiers was impossible, as the approaches to the island were blocked by two German radar-guided cannons located on the neighboring island of Navarone.

The guns are so accurate and long-range that any attempt by the Allies to carry out a rescue operation was doomed. Allied intelligence will learn about the upcoming blitz just a week before the appointed date. A group of commandos was urgently formed, led by Captain Kiff Mallory, who took up the destruction of the German battery on the island. The events of the next six days became a legend on the island of Navarone ...

Review 4K Movie

This essentially simple and unpretentious film is an example of the ideal cinematic hitting the bull's-eye. Films about spies were shot before, but it was in 'Navaron' that a fundamentally new concept was presented to the viewer - 'people on assignment'. It is not for nothing that this adventure picture was nominated for an Oscar and still regularly knocks out beautiful positions in all kinds of top charts for the best films of all time.

The bottom line is that the heroes are sent to a deliberately disastrous cause. They are sent out rather out of despair than out of common sense. And the heroes have to be not just killers, but real spies and scoundrels. Despite the obviousness of the outcome, the viewer is simply not given a reasonable basis for a happy ending until the very end. In addition, it is not at all clear who exactly will survive from the team.

Now, after the Dirty Dozen, Impossible Missions and Inglourious Basterds, this arrangement is no longer surprising. But back in 1961, 'The Cannons of the Isle of Navarone', reinforced by a brilliant cast, simply could not fail to shock the audience. Yes, and the actors are very memorable, although in essence, they did not do anything special. Heroic and silent Gregory Peck, ironic David Niven, emotional Anthony Quinn, courageous Irene Papas and such affectionate Gia Scala. They somehow contrasted very well with each other. The overly straightforward Peck complemented Niven, and Quinn's emotions were heightened by Papas' equanimity. I would highlight, of course, scenes with Quinn begging for mercy on his knees and Niven, unexpectedly sharply arguing. But that's all the details. After all, the cinema succeeded.

I completely agree that the tape had a significant impact on the fourth episode of Star Wars. The interiors of the fortress, the finale, the design of clothes and the behavior of the fascists - I am sure that all these factors did not go unnoticed by George Lucas.

But the most important thing in this picture is its interestingness. Even in spite of the obvious ending - the film is fascinating. And when, at the most crucial moment, the heroes raise the question that one of them is a traitor ... However, it is probably better not to reveal the most interesting. Frankly, I really liked this movie.
